I met sir Peter while he was in New Zealand with his wife at a cafe called The Horny Cow Cafe which is at a place called Bulls in the North Island. We chatted on meeting and when I asked him what he did he told me he was a Civil Servant. But after we had shaken hands the rock hardness of them told me that he was not an ordinary man. My curiosity was aroused but only having his Christian name it took three years investigation to find out who and what he was. Britons can be proud that such men still exist among them. I hope that Sir Peter enjoyed his retirement, he certainly earned it. Best wishes Sir Peter, from Ron. Nicholls.

"The room erupted in loud, spontaneous laughter [...] We continued laughing, in spite of the RSM's orders to stop, until the focus of our anger removed himself from the stage in favor of his replacement. As soon as the new commander stood up, the room was filled with respectful silence. We had had our moment: the SAS had laughed DLB out of the door." - Robin Horsfall on de la Billière

Seems madness to me that the police have to request the armies assistance in an emergency in this country, surely the best of the best should be available to defend the homeland no matter what.

He has that silly/bizarre way of speaking and sounds just like former Labour MP, Tony Benn.
