U.S. Marine Corps 3rd and 4th Reconnaissance Battalion
Operation Southern Fire. We received intelligence reports that insurgent cells were manifesting in a small town ~20 miles south of Fallujah known as Amiriyah. We conducted a surprise raid clearing every room in the town to flush out any possible insurgents followed by 60 days of sustain operations. The raid was conducted by over 150 Marines from 3rd and 4th reconnaissance battalions. As a combat engineer, I was attached to this unit to provide route clearance and explosive demolitions support. I had just turned 20 years old at the time. The closed caption subtitles are from 2005, I’d remove them but I can’t, oh well. From this ordeal, I learned a great deal of empathy from the civilians just wanting to live their lives but caught in the middle of war.
