Iraq's ancient Mesopotamian marshes threatened by climate change
In Iraq, temperatures have risen an alarming 4.5 degrees Fahrenheit since the end of the 19th century - twice the global average. As the climate changes, Iraqis’ livelihoods are at stake.
As rising temperatures change Iraq's climate, water scarcity is threatening historic wetlands. If there’s no water, everything is dead. The economic life is dead completely here, says fisherman Jassem. Water shortages are being compounded by out of date irrigation systems - with experts urgently calling for modernization. 'Last year, the water levels really dropped. This year, there’s no water at all, says farmer Muhsin.

They should learn to code.

You mean programming? Who is going to teach them english? Who is going to provide them with computer hardware, keyboards and screens? Who will provide them with electric energy power? Where is the money going to come from for them to establish solar powers and electricity infrastructure to power the computers? Who is going to spend 3 years teching them art of development and code and how to varry out a project? How are they going to get internet connection and internet infrastructure to be able to publish there programs to other parts of the world like the usa?

@@alikasim9627 Your premise sounds hopeless but they already have a infrastructure. It might not be as up to date as Europe but they are not starting from nothing.

@@RCAVDH the people living in the villages outside of the city barely have it. Its very strange when you claim that, when reality for a lot of the under class in iraq is in a situaton compeletely different from what you are claiming. Like I wonder have you ever been to the poor neighbourhoods of baghdad and the rest of iraq? Have you even been there at all or talked with people living there and listened with your own ears? Instead of assuming assumption that is based on your view of what you think is reality for them.

@ALL AMERICAN people have this unrealistic mindset that just if you know coding and can produce programs, you will have acces to a money printing machine. When the reality is much different, and its not the coding or program it self that generates money. Rather the uses of it that humans can benefit from. There must be someone that have a problem, and have money to pay someone to fix that problem. For example instead of writing all incomes by hand on paper. He pays a company to create a software that easily saves all income on a digital document by automatically sorting category, price from highest to lowest. Date and period etc. And theres only going to be an amount of X companies ready to put money on a company to make a solutions to there problems by programming a software. So I really see his comment unrational, especially when you look at what situation these people are in. Like lets say someone made a crowd sourcibg giving the acces to sun panels, internet connection and computer hardware. What companies is constantly going to pay them money to program a software? Like I do not think programming is forever. There must be demand and you have a lot of competitors and you must really be able to create something a company have use for and are ready to pay you for making that software.

Here is how you know you are not thinking. The Cradle of Civilization = Mesopotamia i.e. IRAQ Which means the Environment would have had to have been wholly capable of supporting a large population Growth to the point that Humans could diversify their Culture and Technology and specialize in something that doesnt directly provide them with a basic need like food, water and shelter. If this is the case then how did this land go from FERTILE to WATER SHORTAGE? Mesopotamian Cities had the most beautiful Gardens and now it's dry? Yet here we are pretending Climate Change is caused by Cars and Power Plants? Make it make sense, why was there a drastic change in the Climate 6400 BC without an Industrial Revolution?

Did you watch the video? Much of the water shortage is due to manmade reasons such as dams upstream and Turkey rationing water.

@@GHELitefire yes dams in Turkey and Iran are the main cause and water being taken from the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers further up river in Iraq. A warmer climate and population wouldn’t help.
