Most are hating because they wouldn’t carry them. I carry a Kimber micro 9 and love how compact it is. But most edc guns are gonna be smaller barrel/grip striker fired polymers. 1911’s are mainly range shooters.

@Ryan Bennett my friend and neighbor is a deputy. He asked me the other day how I manage to EDC a 1911😂 I told him first of all, I don't carry it all day while at work like he would. I do on my off days, though. I'm also used to a Gen 3 Glock 22. Going from a double-stack, full-size polymer to a single stack metal frame wasn't much different.

@@MrFixItGa I’ve never had issues with grip angle going from Glock to 1911 like people mention. If anything is slightly jarring it’s the trigger break after shooting a Glock (traveling trigger) and then going to the 1911 (single stage).

@J Smith Yeah, it's awesome. I think the 10mm is the most versatile round on the market today. I can go from carrying self-defense JHP while put in the city to switching the mag and having a round suitable for bear defense while out in the woods. And it doesn't hurt that this pistol is more accurate than I can ever be.

I am sure that if I had money to throw around a Top line Wilson or Nighthawk would be great. Also I am not a competitive shooter. My $345 1911 shoots as well as the sights allow. But I can ping the chest sized steel at 25 yds no problem. As a civilian I am not going to engage in a gunfight at that range. Typically 10-15 feet is about the limit. At that distance who needs sights anyhow? Consistency is the goal.

Most of mine were Colts as they were on the approved manufacturer list. When I retired I offloaded three of them so now I only have three of them and my uncle's gun that he carried in WWII and Korea. It was made in 1918. Love your shows, Thanks.

Years ago, i found a Springfield doublestack. It was blocky and had rough controls that hung out in all the wrong places. It was my first project gun. Now, it is smooth like a bar of soap, checkered front strap, checkered mainspring housing, checkered and reshaped trigger guard, a smoothed over trigger, and i slow rust blued the whole thing. It took me almost a year. I evwn had a friend make a custom kydex belt holter for it. The only thing it lacks is a nice set of wood or laminate grips. Will probably have to make them. I am thinking about making blue jean laminate with checkering.

My safe queen is a 1911 that was customized for my uncle's competition days in the Army. Deep blued and beautiful. Carried a well worn but excellent 1911 Colt in the Army. I decided to leave the G23 EDC after 8000+ rounds to be my BUG and went back to the 1911. I got the Sig 4.3" and have been blown away by the feel, accuracy and reliability out of the box. The ambidextrous safeties and night sights are a plus as is the anodized finish. Out of the box, 500 rounds without _ANY_ FTFs or other issues and a solid 2" group at 25 yds. Made this out of practice old man feel like he knew what he was doing.

I once owned one of the scandium S&W E Series 1911s you showed. It was a gorgeous gun and felt fantastic in my hand. It was also a dream to carry. I've had it more than 20 years and it's a Series 70 type as it doesn't have the firing pin safety as so many if not most of their 1911's that are Series II 1911's which is a Series 80. @@AGW891 Kimbers are great guns for their price point, and as someone who has a few, I can say they are among my favorites. The issue with Kimber is, they machine many of their parts to tight tolerances but do not hand-fit the guns for price-point reasons. While a machined part might be within tolerance, they sometimes mate pieces that are the exact opposite, and while that might pass QC, it leads to issues such as Failure to Feed (FTF) or the extractor is too tight. I experienced this with a 10mm Eclipse, but, I've also seen this issue with the Dan Wilson 10mm (Hitchcock45 has a video and even he says the gun needs to be broken in). I sent my Eclipse back to Kimber and they hand fitted the gun and I haven't had any issues since. My perspective is either I get a great shooting gun out of the box, or I send it back to Kimber and get a hand-fitted gun a lot cheaper than other "custom" brands. BTW, the pistol I shoot the best is a 45 Kimber Raptor.

My Kimber Custom TLE 2 had many troubles straight out of the box. I heard much hit & miss about their firearms but I had wishful thinking and it was my first 1911. BEAUTIFUL gun imo. Countless FTF's even with Winchester WB. Probably 4-6 FTF's each mag (Wilson Combat) for the first 300-350 rds or so. Ive kept it very clean and oiled, even did a LIGHT polish on the feed ramp with Flitz because I noticed slight scratching like the round was having trouble chambering. Maybe slight machining error? Well, I just ran another 50 rds the other day of same ammo and only had 1 FTF. Still slightly under the recommended "500 rd break-in" so hoping it will work itself out soon. I'm a huge 1911 fan! It is in my opinion the most versatile handgun platform ever. I can be chambered in more calibers in one frame size than any other pistol platform. I personally own 1911's from 3" compacts, 4-4 1/4" commanders, 5" full size and both 6"&7" long slides! In a cast array of chambering. 22lr, 22 wmr .380, 7.62 Tokarev, 9mm, 9x23win, 9x25 Dillion, .38 super, .357 SIG, .38/45 .400 Corbon, 10mm, .40 super, 45 super,.45 ACP, .460 Rowland. And in stretched frame sizes a Coonan .357 magnum and Grizzly .45 win mag. There has never been a more ergonomic handgun, nor a platform more customizable one. They're available in a multitude of frame and slide materials as well as slim single stacks to high capacity double stacks. Are extremely accurate and have by far the best trigger of any semi auto pistol. I would dare say the 1911 is probably the winningest platform in pistol competition as well. And having been our standard issue military sidearm for 75 years probably has saved more lives than any other semi auto pistol as well. Of all the 1911s I've owned, my most favorite have typically been the atypical ones like the Para LDA and Rock Island 22TCM. It is more fun to tinker with and perfect them without worrying about tanking the cost.

Skeletonized hammer , skeletonized trigger adjustable for over-travel , beavertail grip safety, funneled magazine well , flared ejection port , ambidextrous thumb safety , oversized magazine release , fully adjustable sights , and a railed high capacity frame. All of this would have been a very expensive high end gun back in the early 90's that you can have today for less than $1000 dollars. Throw the higher powered calibers .45 Super and .460 Rowland into the mix and you realize that handgunners have never had it so good. P.S. - To my mind .45 Super is fully the equal of 10mm in a 1911 format.

Very nice treatment of a controversial handgun that shouldn't be controversial at all. To all you naysayers, will your handgun have the legacy of the 1911 in 75 years? If it's polymer framed and striker fired certainly not. There are some great ones but after how many decades Glock still can't get it right. The 1911 is a fine wine indeed. Nice job Eric.

I generally agree on this topic with the exception that I prefer a GI Guide rod as it's easiest to disassemble for cleaning. At least in a full size, 45 ACP configuration, if the tolerances are good, it's still plenty accurate and reliable.

Hey Eric! Good job on the 1911s. I had one of the first Scandium alloy Commanders that S&W made. Great gun, good fit and finish, shot like a house a'fire and never a burp until ... after about a thousand rounds of 230gr standard pressure factory loads, the slide stop hole became egg shaped instead of round and it stopped being even a little reliable. I wound up trading it in on a SIG P220. I hope S&W is doing better with their alloy now. Have you checked out the 1911s from Tisas? I have a lightweight Commander in 9x19. It is very much like the S&W commander, but with star burst G10 grips. Mine is the Carry version with fish scale serrations, 2 tone finish and Ed Brown Bobtail. I couldn't find any tool marks ANYWHERE, and that just blew me away in a gun that cost e $550. Oh, and its more accurate than I am, and goes BANG every time. Nice gun.
