It’s fantastic for learning walking jazz bass! Thanks for your video.

Hi Andy, what are you using to show the features of ireal pro? Desktop/Laptop? I've got it on my phone and laptop but the version is clunky and doesn't look like the one you're using? Best wishes Andy

Hey Andy, it's the desktop version. Best wishes, A 🎸

Hey Andy - when watching jazz guitar comping, I often see progressions where only one or two notes change with others ‘anchoring’ and this happens repeatedly throughout the chord progression. It’s a really nice sound instead of changing wholesale to the next chord. Could you cover this a little? Thanks. I am a subscriber so I don’t know if I’m asking in the right place.

Yes, that's how I often like to do things (depending on the song and musical context). I'll that to my list of ideas for videos!

I agree with you about the negative aspects of IReal Pro, but for beginner/intemediate and even advanced musicians, the #1 thing that outweighs any criticisms you can make ---- it's cheap! For about $25 you get a one-time download with thousands of tunes. Obviously it doesn't sound as good as serious professional backing tracks, or playing live with other musicians ---- but as a practice tool I think it is fantastic. And another great benefit you didn't mention, for anyone seriously wanting to learn to sight read from a chart and vastly improve your reading and rhythm skills ---- IReal Pro is superb.

You're right, it is cheap for what you get.

Thanks for this, Andy. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and fully agree with all your + and -ves (especially the massively annoying “paying again if you want it on a laptop as well as a phone” thing). I have a dumb question which I’ve not been able to find an answer to and maybe you can help - if I edit a chord in a tune from a playlist does that edit change it for everyone who has that playlist or does it just change for me? And if I save it with a new name is that new version public or private?
@jazzguitarwithandy Жыл бұрын
It will be your own version and only change it for yourself, unless you decide to share it in the forum.

iReal Pro was introduced to me by a professor at school to practice soloing at home. I find it very useful for just that. I agree with everything you've said about the app especially when it comes to editing/creating your own charts. It's such a learning curve to figure all that out, especially on a mobile device. I can't say much for the desktop version because I don't own a Mac to know if that is anymore more user-friendly there. I think the app serves its main purpose well enough just to mimic playing with a band for practice on your own time. I still like it for that reason at least even though it definitely could use some improvements.

It's great having the ability to create your own tracks or edit existing ones!

I’m tending to use Band In a Box now at home. But might still use IReal pro at a jam if I don’t know the progression.

In fairness if you long press a chord diagram it opens the chord library and you can select better chords.

I think It's really good - a bit like a simplified version of Band-In-A-Box. For the cost of another pedal that you don't really need, BIAB is well worth having.

There's a way to add text, but I have a feeling it would be clunky to try and add lyrics in and get it looking good.
