The problem is the cultural differences between the US and the Netherlands. For example, anonymous accusations are not taken seriously, the Netherlands has a direct way of communicating and that is straight to someone's face. It may be insulting that Vera calls someone fat, but shouldn't a sportswoman or man be fit? And then the American media who also play as a judge. The Dutch trainer Ron Jans who coached FC Cincenetti. After a win, there was a party in the locker room. Hip-hop music was played and all players sang along, including Ron Jans. Until there was an N word in the song that made all the white players shut up. However, Ron Jans continued to sing. The next day, Ron Jans was condemned by the media as a racist and several American anti-discrimination organizations demanded an investigation. Ron Jans apologized but it was too late and he was fired. Ron Jans regretted singing the N word, but being called a racist hurt him a lot. Ron Jans trained many Dutch football clubs and also coached the Dutch youth teams where many black players play. Ron Jans returned to the Netherlands and became a popular coach at FC Groningen and FC Twente.

100% agree it's cultural. I worked with Dutch guys on a construction project before. They had no filter and said exactly what they thought. Initially I thought it was quite insulting sometimes. After a while you get used to it and realize they are just being honest even if they are incredibly blunt in their opinions. They have no time for niceties. Great bunch of guys though. Vera has nothing to answer for here, she was doing her job. Let her get on with leading Ireland to victory. Coygig ☘️ 🇮🇪

Anonymous accusations should never be the norm. Athletes have enough protection now from speaking that they should not be afraid. Where is the Player's Union? They should protect these players from retaliation. Otherwise there will always be a cloud of doubt hovering over any case of alleged misconduct. How about this- FIFA should just penalize Pauw for enabling and allowing dirty plays from her Irish players against the US in their recent friendlies. Or better yet penalize the US coaching staff for allowing Mallory Swanson back on the field after she got knocked out in that collision with the Irish goalkeeper. They set Swanson up to play in unsafe condition and she ended up with a serious knee injury and out of the World Cup roster.

The players saying this on the record but keeping their identities secret is the opposite of their reported bravery when they were speaking up on equal pay. I think they should be open about who they are so they can be held accountable for their accusations.
