Thinking the exact same, think it reflects a smidgeon of Irish inferiority complex on a global scale...tbf we've come a long way confidence/psyche wise being helped by Houghton '88, Bonnar et al' 90, various Eurovision succeses, property prices early noughties etc but there's always a bit of background noise hindering us...you look at our football style, our excessive drinking habits, our lack of emotional literacy compared to say the European norm...there's still an innate sense of 'ah sure we're on the outskirts'...and tbf you can't deny the cultural difference of being born in a country like Italy or the UK for example where they were once world leaders, that confidence is in their national psyche and genes imo and undeniably affects thinking and behaviour...i think the answer is to stop subconsciously comparing ourselves to bigger more powerful nations etc but rather embrace our natural strengths of saints, scholars, warriors, poets, story tellers, humour and innate sense of I don't give a fuck and probably stop over analysing random comments too🤷‍♂️

See lots of comments saying Ireland are a big team. Worth noting that despite that being true it's a small sport here. It's our 4th sport so even when our playing numbers are similar most other small countries it's not that remote a sport there.

@@jeffrey89095 it’s a bit misleading tho, There’s certainly more of a national interest in rugby that football, you just have to look at attendance figures for that and even what the provinces can provide. There’s a stigma that rugby is a very dangerous game (based in truth unfortunately) and that really discourages a lot of parents letting their younger kids play rugby as opposed to football or GAA. As for golf, maybe it’s considered more popular as it has a wider age bracket including those who have retired but otherwise rugby is easily more popular than that. I would confidently say Ireland’s 3rd sport is rugby simply due to attendance figures and some people blatantly refusing to play it because of their size.

@@jamesconnell8478 so the sports are listed by senior adult players which is the fairest way of assessing a sports popularity. I'd disagree strongly on football it's the most popular sport in Ireland and the only competitor is Gaelic football hurling isnt even close. It's harder to measure interest in football here when so many support foreign clubs. But even playing numbers wise it isnt close. Outside of urban areas of limerick cork and south dublin rugby is very much a minority sport. I'm saying this as a person whos played since they were 7

One of the big problems in ireland is that lack of interest so there’s not a lot of knowledge being circulated if you get me? Like you learn as you go and there’s not a lot of places you can go outside of a club to spread knowledge in contrast to football where everyone lives and breaths it and constantly dissecting the game which is a huge help to young footballers opposed to rugby players that pretty much learn the game in there teenage years. Great video but the title is misleading to an extent. Ireland have beaten and been beaten by the opponent teams here, so to say Ireland are beating big teams is not really accurate. Ireland are a big team themselves. We shouldn't forget that in the past 5 games against the All Blacks, Ireland are 3-2 ahead, and not forgetting the multiple Pro 14 and European championships won by Irish clubs. Ireland may be small in population, rugby may not be Ireland's number one sport, but they are one of the big teams of world rugby.

Ireland vs england is always a good match. Its usually one team with a good advantage so you either enjoy it or Ireland win lol. I must say one thing about the Irish, no other team have this inevitably about them where if they get the ball near the line it always seems a guarantee that they will cross it in some way.
