@@rudidedog243 soccer is like the 4th or 5th most popular sport in Ireland. The soccer team does Ireland proud, and their fans do us even prouder. Im not into soccer but the Irish rugby fans do not hold a candle to the Irish soccer fans, this is simple facts. But if disparaging other people brings you joy, then i shall bring some joy. So sit down. Terrenure and blackrock were both molesting and raping children, and both refuse to steroid test the kids. When the scandals broke eu mps who attended the schools and journalists both said everyone knew. Rugby parents drop their 14 year old daughters to wesley disco, where they have sex with the 16 year old boys (how many girls have had to be flown to england in the past after going to wesley, so much that the main girls school who attends the disco is called 'pill on the hill' for 30 years at least. So they send their daughters to be statutory rapes, they send their boys to be molested and raped, and they turn a blind eye to any drug uses. Does that sum up the state of rugby fans in Ireland? And all of that is okay as long as they win and that is all that matters and thats what makes you proud, and soccer does not make you proud because although the fans are the best in the world they dont win, and that embarrasses you?

Ever since the series win in New Zealand last summer I can't remember a more promising time to be an Irish rugby supporter. Having said that, I can't but also feel uncomfortable with all the "best in the world" and World Cup chatter. We have the toughest path imaginable to a semi final and there's really very little between Ireland and our World Cup opposition. France have home advantage. South Africa could've beaten or at least drawn with us in the Autumn series if they had a proper fly-half like Pollard on the field. And it would be extremely foolhardy to ever underestimate the All Blacks.

It demonstrates that France are far more vulnerable in Paris than Ireland are in Dublin.

Jesus Martin, is it not obvious from all the SH comments that they are worried about us? They're either taking credit for our success, telling us that we only won low standard games to get to the top of the World Rankings or telling us that because we performed poorly in the past we perform poorly again. They are reassuring themselves that Ireland are not a threat. France will probably win the RWC, assuming they turn up, and there is a good chance that neither NZ or SA will reach the SF stage. They know that and it makes them uncomfortable. It is easier to tell Paddy that he will crash and burn in the QF than it is to face the alternative. Rugby is a game of small margins, you can be slightly off and lose by 30 points. We have been better at managing those margins over the last year and there is no reason to assume we won't continue to do so. We have as good a chance as any especially as we will not underestimate the opposition. It is not in our nature.

In the end, Ireland conceded 6 tries in 5 games, while Scotland conceded 12 and France conceded 14. Ireland conceded 72 points in the 5 games while France conceded 115. There’s no guarantee that they’d have won without that red card, and certainly even less if Ryan had been correctly carded. They’ve got the toughest route to the final, if they do it the. They are without the doubt the best team, but I have serious doubts.

It's too far out to tell, but I think the Irish boys have shown the cracks in this French side. Ireland have been awesome defensively, only conceding 6 tries in the 5 games, usually just one in a game. That's a scary prospect for any team. I honestly think the French have a lot more question marks in their team. Italy, Wales and Scotland gave them more trouble than they gave Ireland, although the English were obviously far improved against Ireland. Still a bonus point win, keeping Irelands average above 4 tries per game. Ireland are deserved winners. One of the greatest 6N teams I think we've ever seen. WC a long way away, but it's shaping up to be a cracker. I think if Ireland manage to top the group of death, they'll have a good chance of winning it. But that's a big if.

I think our team is much deeper this time round. New Zealand is falling from their once obvious overarching dominance. Australia also. South Africa and France looking good. Despite our rankings, the players are kinda new and aren't super psychologically prepared for the RWC. I think we'll top our group and lose to France or New Zealand

Nah, the starting side was the main problem in 2019. Ireland's spine was terrible. Best and Kearney were well past their best, Murray and Sexton were in dreadful form all season, and Stander was one-dimensional. This year, every player in the spine is at least top 3 in the world for their position. Also, a few of the better forwards looked tired/lazy, which is probably because the team didn't time their run correctly.

Being Irish, there is always the monkey on our back around the QF in a World Cup. So I’m not getting ahead of myself, however this year feels very different. We won a GS while not actually being at our best. I actually don’t think we played very well in 3 of the 5 games. Italy, England and Scotland we were below par and still came out with 2 BP wins, and double digit margin wins in each of those. 27 out of 28 points, 10 tries conceded in 2022 and 2023 tournament combined, not conceding many penalties, looking visibly fitter than other teams. I know it’s different level at the WC, and we have a very hard draw but someone has to win the thing and I can’t see any reason why we can’t go out and do it. And no, this isn’t “Irish arrogance” we haven’t earned the right to be arrogant, especially at WC. But, from previous years where we peaked, had no squad depth, a game plan that was easy to beat with no plan B, or the days where we had one big win in us and then we were spent this has a different feel. I truly believe this team can beat (and has beaten) anyone on their day so hopefully we have a few of our best days in France.

Ireland have momentum, which is important in being successful, and are on a ten game winning streak. They simply take every game as it comes and they fear nobody. I've never seen an Irish team play with such confidence and they are quite relaxed, save for some jitters at the start of English game. They have beaten all tier 1 nations in the last 18 months or so and they all know how hard this Irish team is to beat. So while the Irish have their feet firmly on the ground, it is a concern for SA and NZ as with France on the same side of the draw and ranked above them, it is quite possible that neither SA or NZ will reach a SF. That was pretty obvious from Hansen's comments during the week. For the Irish Rugby Football Union, reaching the SF will make it a successful RWC. The players however, seem to be more ambitious.

@@koketsoncongwane1602 The Irish never underestimate anybody, it is not part of our cultural makeup. Every team is beatable. Looking back you wont find an Irish team that was 35 weeks at #1 in the World Rankings, had beaten NZ in NZ in a three test series, and won a 6 Nations with a grand slam prior to any RWC. You won't have found an Irish team with such depth either, or with such an excellent disciplinary record. Last RWC you will have found an Irish team that had been unbeaten in 2018, lost two games in the 6 Nations in 2019 including a record defeat to England (in Dublin) and only went to #1 before the World Cup for two weeks based on wins in the warm up games. Ireland's challenge in the 6 Nations this year came from both France and Scotland. They won their games comfortably without hitting the heights they reached in the first half of the third test in NZ in 2022. Maintaining an unbeaten streak going into the World Cup is not important at this stage, there are no prizes for warm up games. There is no respect for Ireland in the SH. Not saying we will do any better in 2023 vs previous years, it's just that this team expects to win, isn't relying on "on our day we can beat anyone" guff that applies to 90% of all top-tier teams, and is the first Irish team I can remember, in any sport, that is comfortable being the favourites in most of the matches it plays.

you won the Test series 2-1 against the All Blacks and equalled England's record of 2 wins on New Zealand's soil since 1905, still didn't out score the All Blacks, in that 3 match series. The 2 matches against the Maori All Blacks was drawn 1-1 and didn't out score them either. I don't call that dominated. We went on to lose to Argentina also their 1st ever win, on New Zealand soil, and a week later we lost to South Africa 4 games in a row. At that point the All Blacks sank to their lowest ranking ever to 5th, since ranking were introduced in 2002. Many were counting the All Blacks out of winning the Southern Hemisphere Championship. But they dug deep and after beating Argentina 53-3 and South Africa on the return matches, then played Australia narrowly winning the 1st game after being awarded a last minute penalty and scoring a dramatic last minute try to seal the win, next game was a comfortable win against Australia, and we narrowly won the Southern Championship from South Africa. Cut a long story short we beat Japan narrowly, Wales & Scotland and what many considered the disappointing draw against England after blowing a healthy lead. That year can be remembered for all the wrong reasons Our coaching woes are now settled with Ian Foster not putting his name forward for the job in 2024, and ending as All Black coach at the 2023 RWC. We have Super Rugby Pacific in full swing after Covid disrupted our game for the last couple of years, and it's confirmed Scott Robinson will lead the All Blacks 2024. Then (they or maybe Argentina) could have a quarter-final against Wales (who have been in a mess for a long while now and struggled to win a single match in the 6 nations). That is nothing like the challenge I just described above for SA/IRL/SCO.

@@taintabird23 Ehhh... So not "every other side" then. 3 of the top 5 teams in the world have been significantly handicapped for the biggest competition there is... by the type of draw that doesn't happen in nearly any other top sporting event in any other sport in the world. That's the point. (And rugby is one of the most attritional games there is... it's almost like boxing. Injuries and significant damage are an inevitability during/after big matches.)

@AsAnUlsterman that's the thing the rugby team doesn't represent the ROI or the six county's it was around before partition its an all ireland team I think it sets a good example of what we can achieve when we put aside our political views and work together . One day soon I hope to see a united ireland and by the look of the way things are going I think it will happen in my lifetime so I don't see the need that's just my opinion

@@gar7093 Well of course it was normal to have one Ireland team when Ireland was one country but now it's two countries and each should be properly represented. It's probably your tired old republican aspirations for a united ireland which prevents you from seeing way forward to a peaceful future of coexistence.

Ireland have only conceded 3 yellow cards and zero red cards in the last 12 months and were the only team to not get carded at all in the Six Nations. Ireland have learned to be a very disciplined side and use the ref to their benefit. They're probably the only team that doesn't have to worry about the ref

@DamianTheBeholder now that is a different argument to your original one, now it is the country's experience or collective memories... not sure that holds much water. The four winners have history of doing well, but I doubt either England or Australia will be winning this world cup. Most of the irish players have been playing at a high level for club and country for the last 4 or 5 years, and while they wobbled a bit against England, they still won by 13 points, with the most comprehensive 6 nations grand slam victory since England in 2003... and they hadn't won a world cup either. Not saying ireland will win the world Cup, but they are in the best shape they could be at this stage.

South Africans commenting. Just know this our 4th most played sport behind Gaelic football, hurling and soccer. With a population in the republic of 4.8 million and the north 1.2. Compared to 60 million in South Africa. Before ye go on with yer arrogance, just know a population 1/10 the size of you is better than you at your own game, when it’s not even our own game 😂 just imagine if the gaa boys played.
