JM is by far the best former all black commentary specialist around. He has the courage to be critical, and in a kind way points out our weaknesses and where we need to improve. I watch the break down and it’s just like three outside backs trying to sell the brand regardless of the reality, and the reality is that our pack is not as good as France’s pack, South Africa’s pack, or Ireland’s pack… props to Mils though.

Having said that, the AB pack held parity with the Bok pack in the Rugby Championship (from a Bok fan). I believe that when Retallic and Frizell are there, they bring the power and the mongrel. Now if an AB pack can get parity, then the AB backs become infinitely more dangerous.

Good luck to both teams, hope it lives up to the hype and isn't ruined by penaltys, send offs, poor referring decisions or bad weather. Justin, nailed the description of the current disease in NZ rugby. I see this, as a Kiwi, and not many of my countrymen do. The NZ rugby public believe a form of AB Mythology (often seeing something that is not there); the hierarchy of the game are so completely invested in the brand believing their own marketing hype. Northern rugby has come a long way - as demonstrated by Ireland and France; and by the competition in the 6 Nations. Old NZ rugby heads that spend time in the North can see this and have been vocal about it for some time. But the marketing and hype .... and at times cult of personality, creates a rugby silo in NZ. My team has some hugely talented high rugby IQ, they can and will pull out a performance that will put any other team to the sword. But they need to learn from the North. ABs game structure tends to be too gladiatorial .."winning the contact" etc .... which often does not work with a team stacked with larger humans. The mindset that Kiwis are somehow special has recently been put into perspective - and this has been entirely missed by the public. My people are crazy enthusiastic, and you have to love that, but enough is enough. I wish the ABs well, with all my heart, always have since that first game I listened to on the 'wireless' at about 4am in the morning, countless decades ago. I hope they can get through - it would be nice for Fozzie to take that away with him. I just don't think the ABs can get it done this time. The game ... our game ... has moved on. Others are now better at it. Time to grow up, take on the responsibility ... and take it back. Through real learning and real 'mahi' ... not cultural hype.

All-Blacks gave us a 73-0 a$$ whooping that we were expecting to get. But please don't try take the Haka away from us. That was the highlight of the game for us! Heck, probably the highlight of the tournament, alongside the Namibia win. Watching the All-Blacks perform that before a rugby game is an honor. That experience will stay with us forever. Good luck tomorrow vs Ireland.

Best interview. Very impressed with Justin's knowledge and wisdom on his subject. As an Irish fan totally unused to our team being in this position I think of how Justin highlights that NZ are also in a situation they are not used to. Whether or not the AB's win on Saturday, they are at a crossroads. In a way, a win on Saturday may stall the changes that are necessary for them to be the best again because the world has caught up with them. But, following Justin's excellent and holistic assessment the AB's will, given the innate talent and passion that exists in NZ, will be back. (They cannot do otherwise). But right now, as Ireland are championing a new way, we can and must beat them on Saturday.

Gosh, one of the best interviews I have watched! Justin says the way it is with no bias and complementary to both sides. I believe Ian Foster still coaches as an assistant coach! Captaincy will have a major impact on the game and Sam isn't quite there. Many New Zealanders are picking Ireland to win and rightfully so! It's interesting most commentators are talking about individual All-Black players and if they are at their best but Ireland talks about the team. That pretty much says it all because it's a team sport! Come the end of the day, it would be great for the sport, for a different team to win the cup!

Keeping the Haka for "big occasions" would be very disrespectful to lesser teams like Italy. If they don't get Haka'd (is that a word?) they will feel like they are being dismissed as unimportant.

@@Sylo. yep, something that really helps with interpretation of it is the clip of the NZ basketball team doing it in front of a star-studded USA team stacked with the best paid players in the world. It clearly wasn't about saying "We are stronger, we will destroy you", it's just traditional. I also remember when the All Blacks played Munster and Munster's New Zealanders did their own Haka in response!

Great interview and breakdown boys, feeling' it, from a Dublin man in NYC, also by the sounds of other interviews it sounds like there needs to be more competitions in New Zealand. It was definitely the place to go learn for the past 100 years & no one can take that away from you. But I'm routing for the boys as I have done my whole life, 53 years now, we deserve one and I'm looking forward to some top class running, passing, tackling, scoring, lets go Shamrocks ☘☘☘

What an excellent format. Kudos to the camera-man & sound guy, making this a very natural conversational style interview with great scenery. The walk'n'talk style focuses the viewer on the content of what they're saying without distracting or shutting one's attention span down. The laconic delivery of the interviewers questions adds to the rhythm of the interview. It feels like the viewer is actually there, walking alongside them while they talk.

Another great chat. Looking forward to all the games this weekend but especially the Ire v NZ one. I think it's going to be especially physical, surpassing the SA v Ire clash a few weeks ago. Some of the NZ players are quite bullish about their prospects, judging by some of their comments in the press conferences in the last few days. I think they have a steely determination about them and from an Irish perspective, that worries me. I think Joe Schmidt will have devised a few "trick" plays for this game too. That said, Ireland aren't lacking motivation either and both their defence and attack have been very good. I really can't call the result. I see it 50/50. The first few minutes of the game will be really interesting - Ireland like to start fast and impose their gameplan on the match and get points on the board early. But so do NZ - it's one of aspect of their current play that I think they've adopted from Ireland. A fascinating match in prospect. Nothing against NZ but I hope Ireland win - they're an excellent side who've been great to watch over the last few years in my opinion.

Can see Ireland walking away with this one. And that is incredible to say, given my lifetime and what NZ have done. This game 'feels' so much like NZ vs France in Cardiff. As an attempted soothsayer - I honestly think that their hardest game will be the semi-final, whoever they get. I feel like, if they beat NZ, the entire momentum and expectation will shift entirely, and it will become a disappointment if they don't win (and also they'll go into the semi-final as MASSIVE favourites). Argentina have the QF knockout to scare Ireland with. So do Wales. And both will make their lives absolute hell in that semi-final. So much so, I think they might, as marshy says, go inside themselves a bit. But, as a Welsh fan, I think they'll get through it all. And I really hope I see the mother of all finals (OK, I'd obviously prefer Wales!), Ireland vs France. Bon chance Iwerddon!

Good analysis by JM about when the ABs went into decline i.e. the Lions Tour. There has been no indication or innovation for that matter as far as I can see that demonstrates that we know how to negate Ireland's, France's or South Africa's aggressive defence. That's on the coaches. Foster banging on about how other teams need to adopt an attacking mind set doesn't give me any confidence that we will be able to cope with the pressure Ireland bring this weekend. I hope I'm wrong and it's not beyond the character of these ABs to pull one out of the bag.
