The FCA was Ireland's part-time Territorial Reserve Army from 1946-2005. This documentary was made in 1988 , when Ireland was in the midst of a very deep recession, money for Defence and particularly Reserves was very short. At this time the establishment strength would have been in around 18,000. Most towns would have had a recruiting centre, many young men got a chance to experience life in the Forces. Uniforms and weapons at this time were a living museum, however, the force had very high morale and a very dedicated Officer/NCO Corps. The economic changes in the 1990s brought huge changes and by the time of Re-Org 2005 the force had become a very well equipped and motivated reserve.
