When I was a kid,we had a large flood in my area. The hams directed medical and food to the areas that needed it.

I miss the days when I was a ham !! My OM and I moved into a retirement village when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's and we sold up our radios etc as the village was not keen on us having a tri-band antenna over the house. 10 years later I still have a power pack under my bed and my morse key. My callsign was ZS5XV. 73s from ZS

I worked my first field day this year, doing ft8 on my IC7100 (using it as my shack radio, not mobile). Now I have a whole year to get a mobile power setup together like yours, because, God willing, we won't be allowed to work from home next year! Get that General!! 73 de WW3RRR

I operated from Albany, Kentucky with my FT-818 and a longwire antenna. I spent about half of the day and night dodging thunderstorms, so I didn't operate the entire contest. The 40 meter band was open to the west coast around 4am and I was able to work several stations in California with only 5 watts of power! The 818 is an amazing little rig with the right antenna.

That's a really cool setup. I'm interested in Ham radio, but I need to learn a lot more about it before jumping in headfirst: like I usually do lol. Thanks for the video, and stay safe out there!

Something I didn't even think about with Techs this year; 10M was banging, and what a great opportunity to operate and a great experience to reason to think about upgrading one or two more times. Glad to see you've set up something nice like this.

I was recently considered getting my GMRS license to start with. That way my family can use a radio without having to have a ham license. Of course we would only operate on GMRS stations. I'm trying to figure out an emergency way to communicate with my family if the cell networks go down similar to what happened recently with T-Mobile.
@zalleywaalley82273 жыл бұрын
If you do get a license then you could legally setup a repeater for a frequency allocated from the FCC. However, if you looking for long range, grid down, communications. Ham radio will be the only way to do that

Very nice little setup, I personally would have hooked up to the fence, if nothing else just to see if it would work lol

I reckon your ideas and setup are very good mate. I have been trying to design a good radio box for many years and I reckon your design is pretty good! The newer tool boxes have opened up a lot of new design ideas for radio boxes.

My cousin and i have made contact with people in southern Mexico and south America and all the way down in Chile 🇨🇱 using an old President Madison Base station and a diy antenna he made...oh yeah and the amplifier he lives in Tijuana so no rules about using amplifiers.

Hey there from WI. Been with your channel a while. Always good content. Would you consider doing a “newby to ham radio” series? I’ve purchased a 6 pack of beofang uv5r a while ago (I have a larger family [10] for emergency communications. I’d like to get licensed soon but need starting point for listening for now until that time. Also a set up of emergency comms would be great. God Bless.

I'd recommend having a look at a DX Commander expedition multi band antenna. It's a tuned antenna so you won't need a tuner and therefore reduces losses when you only have 6w to start with it is pretty important to get out. I think this version might fit in your box and it would get you out in places where there are no trees etc.

Off and on through the course of two years I've been trying to study to get my Tech license but every time I try to buckle down and get serious I get distracted with live and have trouble getting back into it. Maybe I would take it more serious if I personally knew someone with a ham radio. Four years ago I bought a UV-5R and earlier this month I bought a Nagoya NA-771 whip antenna.

Carlos - do it! If I can you can too. In South Africa we had to use morse code only for the first year before we could go full board on chatting. Good luck.

Great video and go box👍. For field day, QRP is fun, but for a disaster situation you might consider a full power rig like the 857 or 991.🤔 73 K9HCA

Nice video here. A great video for people to learn from for a goal kit. I’d like to use this on my channel that helps to teach hamRadio to people as part of my week of field day preparations series. I’ll make sure to credit your video and channel in the description. Did you ever license up? If so, what license do you have now? All the best to you from Oregon! Larry de K7HN
