She reminds me of Tai Lung from Kung Fu Panda; someone who was brought up to believe she was the best and destined for greatness only to be crushed by reality and ended up take out her frustration on others in a futile quest for vengeance and redemption.

True, but at least with Tai lung, he actually had the ability to back up his arrogance. He defeated the furious five, shifu, and dominated po for most of the fight. Plus, he managed to escape chor gom prison (forgive my misspelling as I don't know how to spell) with ease. He pummeled the guards, escaped from his chains shell prison, managed to jump on a platform, use it as a shield to repel what looks like to be hundreds of arrows at once, and managed to do all of this by himself. He has shown many times throughout the 1st movie why he's a force to be reckoned as he took on/defeated some of the strongest characters in the franchise.

@@earlrice8095 his point still makes sense before Shadow showed up she was considered the strongest in the kingdom, whether thats true or not doesn't matter the point is like Tai Lung she believed she was destined for greatness and everyone fed into it, but then someone comes along and shatters that reality she begins a spiral downwards
@earlrice8095

@@sdbzfan1 I'm not saying they're wrong, bit I am saying is that Tai lung has done more to make the audience believe that his behavior is justified, as opossed to iris who we're is the strongest, but we don't see anything that shows she's worthy of the accolades she had. Hell, she and a bunch of guards couldn't defeat a monster that got one shot by alpha. She lost to shadow twice, and she somehow believes she still has some shot to kill him. Her behavior is more of her being delusional l, but Tai lung is more understandable in his beliefs since he has beaten some of the most powerful characters in the kung fu panda movie. That's why Tai lung is more sympathetic, but iris isn't. Tai lungs is more of a show don't tell portrayal. Iris is more of a tell, don't show. She lost several times and still believes she can do something she obviously can't, where Tai lung came very close to his goal and was only barely stopped by po. Both have an ego, but to the fans, one feels more justified in having an ego, and one really doesn't deserve to have one since she even one of shadows members take down a monster she couldn't. That should've opened iris mind to the possibility that there could be stronger warriors than her, but she didn't. All she thought is that they used artifacts and not from raw power itself. She wasn't willing to accept that there was a slim chance that there are warriors who are superior to her, which is weird consider she knows beatrix, who in fact is called a war goddess, and she doesn't use artifacts. That's why Tai lung is more sympathetic, and people are happy to see iris get her ego put in check.

Personally it's not completely her fault. A lot of Iris's Education was put into her physical development and not enough towards her mental Development, and this is the first time she's ever dealt with failure. It's easy to accept failure as a child or teenager because you're still learning and you'll know you'll get better but as an adult it weighs more on your psyche because you never thought you would ever fail in the first place. I think that's the main difference between Alexia and Iris. Alexia Knows how to handle failure while Iris doesn't.

I would argue Delta has a healthier train of thought than Iris. Delta is strong and proud of it, but knows she is not smart, so she cedes the leadership to smarter people, even though she is only below Shadow and Alpha in the "pack's ranking". She is sociable and is happy to enjoy a relatively anonymous life in her downtime. She has good instincts, but never lets her pride get in the way of listening to them, and she is constantly striving to be stronger. Delta is not smart, but she is wise.

To be honest, I can relate to Iris. I was an honor student from elementary to high school and took great pride in my academic achievements. However, when I entered college and began pursuing my chosen course, I soon realized that academic excellence can only get you so far. While I may have had an initial advantage, I encountered individuals who were far superior to me, and it shattered my confidence. Here I was, an excellent student throughout my entire educational journey, only to be outperformed by someone much more talented. This experience triggered a downward spiral in my emotional and mental well-being as I tasted failure for the first time. And it only kept going until the day I graduate. Now I am happy with a passing grade. A younger me would not settle less for a B. That's how I got slapped by reality.

Honestly I think the fall of her character was well done and gradual. I wouldn’t call her a bad character since her fall from grace was the intention of the writer. I’d only consider a character bad with they failed at conveying the writer intention. Iris is currently a hatable character given her status as potential villain, but I’d call her character journey so far as good.

This is honestly the best way to think of what an actual "bad" character is. Not an evil or unlikable one, but a poorly written one. If the character is intended to be evil, they're not necessarily "bad" they're a villain. If a hero is unlikable, they're only bad if the written didn't intend him to be. Cid is a good example. He's ment to be selfish, psychotic, and narcissistic. That makes him awful morally and as a human, but that's what the author wanted. So he's not necessarily a "bad" character. People only think he's "bad" because they think he's the Hero of the story. Protagonist sure, but far from the Hero

It will be disappointing if she just ends up as a villain because she would be easily defeated by most of the upper echelon of shadow garden, the only one she could beat is Gamma. I think she will try to fight someone like Alpha but will end up learning that she has been played by the cult and have another mental breakdown. Alexia cares for her and will learn much more in the future, being there to help Iris when the time comes.

You forgot to point out that the Anime actually cranked her unlikability to the max during the final battle of the season. In the novel (and Manga), the battle was limited to the arena, being watched by, virtually, all the people in the Kingdom. So, her reasoning to participate was to defend the honor of her country by stopping Shadow's "rampage". Neither she lowered herself to seek "borrowed power". She also didn't broke down in frustration for her powerlessness, the end of the conflict left her more confused (who's the true enemy and what not) than anything else. But, in the Anime ... the battle spread way beyond the arena, out of the view of everyone else (who were in capable of noticing the battle happening around them), only with the collateral damage as proof of the battle. Her reasons to join the fight was just her inflated ego that couldn't accept that there was someone that she couldn't defeat. Ultimately, by bringing the artifact with her, she only increased the collateral damage the city took when Shadow deflected their attacks. She was more interested in being a annoyance to Shadow than anything else. Also, didn't helped that they completely removed Shadows lines about "the true enemy", which made it look like the battle was only a means to a greater end for Shadow. Instead, the Anime gone above and beyond, with Shadow showing off like a lunatic. In the end, the novel had Iris end the Bushin Festival only confused, what's implied that the cult took advantage of her confusion to corrupt her. In the Anime, she fallen into madness on her own!

I feel completely different about anime iris. To me she still wanted to save everybody- but this s time she choose to stop shadow- who according to Knowledge she had - was terrorist. She take artifact on order to close the gap in power- and be Able to do something. So she throw away her Pride in order to have better chance at shopping cid. I didn't see anything that would resemble iflated ego. She was trying to stop Villaian knowing full well she is not strong enough. To me her anger and frustration is just the way to express her powerlessnes. In that way she like many MC that choose to fight in helpless situation. What else could she do? Let him go free to do as he wish? Her Negative Emotion make her more human in my eyes. Then she still losses- shes Powerless to protect anything- that gotta hurt. All her effort was wasted. She was in fact ready to lose her life. And all that was not enough.

What impressed me the most, was the contrast between Iris and Beatrix when it came to dueling with Shadow. Beatrix motivation seemed to be driven by the joy of sparring with a formidable opponent while Iris was for vanquishing the only person who had ever bested her in combat. At the end of the fight, Beatrix's level of maturity really stood out as well compared to Iris' lack of it. At the train station, before leaving the city, Beatrix's parting words to Iris that there are existing entities (i.e. Shadow) that mortals could never hope to rival, and that Iris had no reason to feel ashamed for it, were very true. Beatrix is a very wise, powerful and beautiful stoic.

The sad part is Delta is better than Iris in almost every way, other than intelligence. We all saw what Delta did in a more powerful anti-magic field. Also upon meeting Shadow she knew she could never defeat him, so she didn't try. We have never seen Shadow kill a woman, more likely she will be defeated by her own sister Alexia. Both are basically manipulated by the situations around them, but don't face it properly like Alexia and Rose. But Iris is worse than sherry given that the issues she deals with is by her own hands and she refuses to believe it even when everything points against it. Great video, friend. I never knew she was a hated character. I have watched the anime and she never came off as hateful. Simple minded, yes. Too by-the-book and quick to label Shadow Garden as enemies but nothing to be hated much. Her desire to protect her sister and her kingdom is also very heroic. I have finished reading the first volume of the novels and am halfway through volume 2 but maybe I will find why she is hated as I read more.

She's one of the most complex and interesting character of the show. Unlike Shadow, who act like a baboon most of the time, she actually had heavy responsibility and face many threat within and outside her kingdom. She struggle between her love for her sister, her duty as a princess, she need to be strong for her kingdom and people, to protect them from enemy, she need to act strong cause she know she's the only bulwark of her nation (and the only powerhouse of Midgard kingdom). Why people hate her demonstrate the lack of insight from fans who "love" this show.

Agreed. From a meta standpoint Iris’ character is consistently written with a logical process (if one takes a moment to remember that the characters aren’t in possession of the facts the audience are.) For the overall plot Iris stands as a benchmark for the pinnacle of reasonable strength in this world in that day and age. What is commonly and publicly seen as the martial pinnacle. She’s a prodigy fighter, one of the best magic knights the kingdom has and EVERYONE knows it. She’s operating under the expectations of both royalty and talent that the entirety of society places on her. She’s surprisingly realistic when one understands what rules she’s operating under. As royalty her reputation reflects on her family and kingdom. As a martial champion her worth is tied to her skills. At the same time her father’s cautious approach yields no results. Caution is fine but passivity is crippling. She is trying to be responsible and proactive in safeguarding her kingdom from an insidious cult that she knows has infiltrated her kingdom and likely others. But information is lacking, her support is weak and she lacks options beyond using martial feats to get wheels turning through a display of prowess. She’s at once dutiful and powerless and caught between two powers that defy reasonable limits. Which brings me to my next point, where we have the Cult of Diabolos. A secret society that’s been squirrelled away for centuries synthesising power beyond human limits, the luxury of time and vast wells of magic power at their disposal to create super soldiers that inspired myth and legend. Unseen and unremarked as to their strength they are incredibly dangerous, elusive and unlike Shadow Garden have been shown to refine their tools over their lifetimes to be as powerful as they are. Their power seems reasonable considering the advantages they have but is still beyond the single cumulative efforts of the normal world. Then there’s Shadow Garden who flat out break the rules because reasons (seriously, there’s no macguffin or justification why Cid and the others are mountain above everyone else. Dedication and talent is one thing but this is breaking suspension of disbelief, but I digress.) Their power flat out breaks any established rules, limits or guidelines as to how power works other than because this is a comedy series and overpowered protagonists are the current thing on the parodic chopping block.

@@rustkarl Well not really, if you remember SG members are descendants of the Legendary Heroes that inherited their strength, which would normally kill them due to the curse but with Cid's cure they are able to fully develop their powers (hence why no super strong characters before Cid arrived), the Heroes themselves were genetically modified super soldiers that the cult spent ages testing and refining (IDK why they stopped after they got Diablos but I guess they got distracted by immortality research). This is a flimsy reason for a OP Protag but the only person to break the rule is Cid for being a guy since all descendants seem to be female, but he does have the bloodline evident by the fact his sister was also cursed (His sister is also strange for being so weak as a descendant but I guess that was hand waved by Cid teaching SG his cumulative martial knowledge from our world).

@enigmaticspace7578

@@rustkarl The power of SG's members isn't really rule breaking if you analyze it again. First, they were descendants of the 'heroes' genetically altered by the Diabolos cult. That right there should already clue you in that they're stronger than normal people. How strong? It varies from each person, but it's still a fact that they're stronger than the average person, OR, that they have the capacity to be stronger than regular people not part of the blood line of the 'heroes'. Second, there's Cid himself. Cid trained himself to become stronger since childhood. It's already shown in his past life how he's dedicated to his training. Heck, in the manga, they've shown him to be unrealistically buffed for his age. Of course that shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's just showing us, the viewers, that Cid is, and always, a dedicated person when it comes to becoming strong enough to defeat a nuclear explosion. In the first place, it's even shown that he's already killing bandits when his age was still in the single digits. Add to that the fact that there are extremely powerful beings in that world, like real dragons and such. And this person, who's ridiculously so dedicated into becoming a 'nuclear power', is the one who trained the SG members, at least the initial seven. Can you still say that they're power is rule-breaking to the established rules of the world? No, not really. Sure, there's still some level of 'OP-ness' and 'rule-breaking' on their part, but it's not as much as what you think. If anything, it's still within reasonable levels, albeit at the very limit of being reasonable.

Me personally, I don't give a fuck how many people hate her (which I can understand from certain point of view. At least from a narrative stand point if you know at least the LN content) But I actually really like Iris character, like I can somewhat see what direction the author is writing for her. (The downfall of the hero) and I am up for all that. If done well, she can potentially become one of the best writers characters in the show. If she end up becoming a villain or at least a tragic hero who later obtain redemption etc.

I'll be honest I feel like the biggest reason why people hate her is because she opposes the MC. Which is usually the case in many Isekai IMO. I personally find it refreshing to see someone who isn't sycophantically devoted to the MC. Someone with their own personalities, flaws, goals, struggles. Will she get better, or sink even further? Her delusion and refusal to accept reality (going as far as to attempt harming her sister for trying to tell her the truth) is probably why she's hated.

I think Iris is probably the most relatable character in the series so far. She wants to do right but no matter how powerful she is (or thinks she is) always falling short of others expectations. We dislike her because it reminds of us our own limitations and things we've failed at in life. She has good intentions when it comes to protecting her country as well. However, she is short-sighted and often doesn't realize her impulsive nature hinders her gaining status with her peers. She decides shadow garden is the enemy of her country, but doesn't have any good evidence. In life we all make bad assumptions that lead us to worse decisions. Her character is a painful reminder that we as humans are quite flawed even if we have the most noble of intentions. She is the one female in the series that isn't really a trope, and you can kind of tell the author is basing this character off someone they knew in real life. If you think about it, despite all the other stuff happening in season 1, she's the only character that had any development (albeit negative) at all. Rest of the characters are the same or just more powerful for the most part. To me, Iris was actually the main character of season 1. Shadow has done many things, but his character remains all powerful and same character since the beginning episode. Season 1 was basically an origin story and Iris the only notable character change we got. To me it seemed pretty well done as we've all seen or been in situations where we were trying our best but just kept failing. Not all stories end with the hero saving the day.

She is a tragic character because of her inability to see her own faults. Iris is also very sheltered given her life as a royal princess and thus easily manipulated by the Cult since her own subordinates are working for them. She is conscious of this, but at the same time she has most likely never been told that she needs to improve, which causes her to have a big ego. She may be considered one of the strongest normal characters in the series, but when compared to the Shadow Garden under Alpha's command, she wouldn't even measure up to Rose post training much less more powerful members like Victoria. Iris deludes herself with thinking that Shadow and the others are using artifacts and this will eventually corrupt her, which I'm guessing is the Cult's true aim to control the kingdom through its crown princess. My hope is that Alexia manages to somehow break through to her sister and save her from her mad crusade against Shadow Garden before it consumes her entirely. I would say Alexia has much better control over her emotions and her own self than her sister and she has demonstrated more political will and deftness than Iris has thus far. This is most likely due to her being the second princess and thus not seen as important as Iris is and as a side effect of this, Alexia is a much more well rounded person.

She put the entire weight of the kingdom on her shoulders, most likely is that because of her being a woman in a time period similar to medieval and renaissance. No one wanted to teach her knowledge on how to lead, politics and she was sheltered and distance because of her status. Unable to have any friends because of status, maintaining distance and noble status. Everyone had high expectations of her that were unrealistic, putting her on a pedestal and she did it to her self as well. Her own self worth was linked to her whole life, men that last a fight would probably talk behind her back and say it's because of royalty lineage is why she's so strong, or she's not a man but a woman and it doesn't count or they make excuses for there failure. She works hard and no one notices it. She and her sister are similar and both emotional. Hormones, youth, expectations, goals, pain and disaster. Being royalty is not easy. There father is terrible and distant. She has a complex but that is no reason to hate a character. Her character has depth, pain, struggles and is pretty realistic.

Instead of hating her, i actually pity her. She is the first princess of the country and she is rhe head of the order that is responsible to her people's safety. So that responsibility gave her a pressure that pushes her to succeed. If she fails, the people will know they are not in safe hands and that will bring her, the order and her kingdom shame. Alexia being the younger sister, despite having her own problems in her life, is not someone who shoulders the safety of her kingdom as much as iris is. You can feel her anguish when she loses to shadow because of it. Its not that she is too proud to lose, its just that she cannot afford to lose because of her position which holds a lot of expectation and responsibility from the whole kingdom.

Iris, on her mind she is the most powerful person in to the kingdom that has excellent military force and academy. It's safe to say that the Midgar kingdom is the most powerful nation in their world (dimension) in terms of military so here comes Shadow or Cid Kagenou hiding as incompetent son of a poor Baron younger brother of strong Clair(as people know) has a capability to destroy any kingdom he wants(nuclear weapons are strongest today) but always hiding as secret hero. If you are Iris what will you do? Iris also believe in story of the cult and yes she only believe on herself but I don't think Iris has a match on Delta, Alpha or Shadow (Cid) himself so her being antagonist c'mon give Cid a stronger opponent not so delusional princess that still believe she is the strongest in her kingdom.

People like you who hate her shows how much you didn't understand her character. She's a tragic villain because her attitude is the product of her upbringing and the unbelievable amount responsibility thrust into her since her childhood. She never had a true figure that taught her the value of humility and the importance of learning from her mistakes. Everyone around told her that she's a prodigy, and that she's the best out of everyone. Do you seriously expect her to become a decent human being by modern day standards with that kind of upbringing? Yes, she is a likable character, not because of her attitude, but because of how well-written her character is, up until this point of the story. Well-written? Yes, she's a well written character. Why? Because there's a connection between her attitude and her upbringing. And people like me who like her wants to know what she'll do next. Will she continue down her path to insanity, or will she finally start learning from her mistakes and try to become a better human being? And it wasn't just told to the viewer. It was shown to the viewers. Even if her screen time is shorter than the others, there was still enough exposition to show how her upbringing and her surroundings affected her way of thinking. And for you to say that people who hate on her are sensible? If anything, people who hate on her are people who have superiority complex. People who hate on her just picked out her wrongdoings, but they never tried to understand nor make a connection as to why she was like that in the first place. If you truly understood her character, then you wouldn't hate herm, because the ones responsible for her current attitude is her surroundings. Oh yes, she's still wrong. She's still a VILLAIN, but an understandable one. The fact that you just picked on her wrongdoings and didn't try to understand what caused her to be like that that shows your awful attitude. And for you to claim that people that hate on her are sensible? You've just shown that you are worse than Iris herself, and that you're incapable of understanding the complexities of human behavior.

A lot of people who hate on her just points out her wrongdoings. Yes, she's wrong and a bad person for what she has done and what she's now doing. I wouldn't deny that. But the least we can do to respect the author's work is to understand the character before we criticize any of his characters. Many people who hate on her didn't even try to understand her upbringing and just simply bashed her. That's disrespectful to the author. She doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed so I imagine her privilege growing up and automatic sense of importance got shattered when fighting an opponent utterly stronger and more tempered then her. Whereas Beatrix clearly was studying Shadow and acknowledging his skill to probably fight him again for sport someday, Iris was like a spoiled rich kid being run through the gravel pit. I guess its just an inability to acknowledge when your wrong or when you need to train more against the opposing force.

She kept running through her training like a new player complaining about the tutorial being 'too easy' and never evolving what she knew to push herself. @sammydray5919 7 ай бұрын
@@richardbarton5910 Thank you for giving your reasons. Now I'll try to give reasons why I think the "hate" for her has been overblown a bit. She has been brought up as the most powerful warrior in the kingdom and throughout her childhood her entire life and her perception is being shaped by that. Alexia as good of a character she is, has been seen as severely lacking in terms of power. As much as Iris loves her sister exactly WHY would she put that much stock into her mere words of warning regarding power? And when she does see Shadow and his group's power because this random group had come out of nowhere, blowing nukes in the middle of the city regardless of lives lost, burning down school and killing a well respected ex warrior teacher (remember only shadow knows the truth about that whole debacle) so when this super powerful group shows up and doing whatever they want and answering to nobody of course she is gonna rattled. They go against everything she has ever been taught and endured throughout her life. And she does give shadow and his group a chance when entering that school by heeding her sister's words. She did want to give him a chance but what happened ? The school was burnt to the ground and a well respected teacher was killed and his daughter left traumatized and vengeful (yes we know the truth is different but for the characters Shadow is the villain here). The very same mission that killed the knights that willingly followed her, putting even more pressure on her. To her and the characters outside of his team, Shadow is a vile terrorist who is supremely powerful and does whatever he wants. He is basically a massive fuck you to that world and its established power structure and while its massively fun for us to watch, to those characters he is basically the biggest villain alive. Something which Shadow revels in. Combine that with her upbringing where all importance was given to her being the strongest. Her entire upbringing had been warped because she was to be the strongest in the country. To the point that she basically could not have any normal or healthy relationships at all. As much as she tried to be there for her sister, Alexia's own complex completely blinded her for years. Iris even when she tries to do good for her people is basically denied opportunity that because of political reasons. Her entire existence via her narrow minded upbringing by others was completely dependent on her being the strongest (and to be fair she is the strongest outside of shadow and crew so that pride isn't baseless) but then shadow and his crew came along and blew that to smithereens on top of performing one criminal act after another and giving no explanation or assurity whatsoever. All this and the mounting pressure basically had her entire reality crushing down is why she loses her shit by the end of the season. Her battle with Shadow at the end of the season here displays just how much the mounting pressure has finally broken her. Her actions become rash because her entire reality basically crumbled and she could do nothing about it. Its a sad decline for any person in that scenario. So while her actions keep becoming more irrational, I think the reasoning behind them and what led to all this is pretty well done. So dont think she deserves all the hate she gets.

I would think she would become a villain with the help of The Cult and Sherry re-making what her foster father made her do to help Iris defeat/kill shadow. The truth will come out after this and Iris will get her redemption arc and her full support for Shadow Garden. Meanwhile Sherry will know the truth and get the closure she needs. Or Sherry will help create monsters that would ravage Midgar kingdom which also leads to both knowing the truth. Either way both will become a villain, but as important characters they will be saved by Shadow with The Garden as support

I wouldn't say Iris is prideful and arrogant, more so that she has a heavy duty and responsibility thrust upon her at an early age. I will agree that she's stubborn. I feel like Iris gets a lot of hate simply because she isn't one of the MC's fan girls. Iris' response and reaction makes much more sense considering that the group of people who kidnapped her sister, infultrated the knights order and other parts of the govt. The most wanted guy in the kingdom, made a grand entrance by nuking a city and his threat level is deemed to be higher than that of the witch of calamity, which was considered the greatest threat in history till Shadow showed up. Her losing all sense or reason during the fight with Shadow wasn't because she wanted to be the strongest but because she had to be the strongest. If the strongest knight in the kingdom is incapable of even haulting a threat to the kingdom, then her intire existence as it was presented to her was meaningless. Unlike Beatrix who was fighting for the sake of fighting, Iris was fighting for the sake of her people and that loss broke her.

No? It was how she ignored her sister's warning and her father's, making her look like a spoiled brat that doesn't listen. I'm fine with arrogance, but at vol 5 meh can't stomach this character, she really said to her sister, "I'm tired of your bullshit and our father's bullshit I don't give a fuck because it doesn't follow my beliefs." And doesn't question every action on why it should happen, which makes it worse because she only listens to her "Hubb"

Honestly i hate Claire more than i hate Iris.. hell even "hate" is too strong a word for Iris. If i had to describe what i dont like about her is her inability to see the facts mostly regarding Shadow/Shadow Garden. Her pride getting in the way of of seeing what was effectively right in front of her. Shadow was the one who saved Alexia not only once but TWICE, Alpha beat Milia's mutated demon form, shadow garden saved the academy from the cult who stole shadow garden's name as well as other things. Honestly im hoping that some facts come to light about the cult and she wakes up to realize that she was the one causing more problems than she was fixing. Maybe even we might get ourselves some sort of redemption arc or episode or chapter. Or maybe even if Iris gets posessed almost totally and Shadow saves her too. Thatd be a cool moment.

The main reason I’m not too fond of her, is because in the manga she’s denying the existence of the cult, putting all the blame on shadow garden of the destruction of the city. She clearly completely despises Shadow, and I just think it’s because she lost to him in front of the world, and she’s labeled a swordsman genius so it must’ve hit her hard. At any rate she’s pretty well-written and I do want to see her possible join the cult, get corrupted and crumble under the pressure of everything ahaha

At 9:19 it starts to talk about Iris's mental decline, when I heard this I started to see similarities between Iris and Azula from the last Airbender. These two characters have a very similar story ark along with their siblings. Zuko and Alexia have a similar character development in because they had someone to kind of guild them through the events of constant ridicule and humiliation (Zuko had Uncle Iro while Alexia had at her lowest Cid / Iris (when Iris complemented her swordsmanship after their duel) she realized they wert making fun of her but genuinely complementing her.), Iris and Azula didn't and their pride and arrogance was their down fall. Because of their success and finding nothing to hinder them, Iris and Azula began to develop a very pride fueled arrogance and they started to see themselves as the best so they stop trying to better their mentality because they thought they were the best and nothing was going to change this. Then one day they where shown the truth and their pride / arrogance told them that it couldn't ever happen, so we see them stay relatively stable but the doubt toward their pride starts to simmer and so when their pride is challenged and trampled on again they loose all rationality and stop seeing reality. Because of this disconnect between reality and perception they slowly fixate on the thing that trampled on their pride witch slowly leads to them going crazy loosing trust in others that don't see what they do even if the people are trying to help them including the people they were closest to. that distrust send them further into a spiral of obsessive hate distrust and allies, eventually making them either the worst enemies for a short time or them dying in an extremely horrible way, usually by a mistake or by the very people they loved in the first place. TL;DR: Iris and Azula have a very similar character development. Edit: I paused when I first heard him say emotional intelligence and hadn't finished what he was going to say. he even points out the similarity in the video . . . my bad I guess I should have just watched all of it instead.

So the interesting thing is Iris IS actually amazing but the rest of the cast is just more amazing. Iris is the strongest dark knight if you exclude variables like the cults round table, the seven shades, Beatrix, and shadow himself (duh). It’s like mushoku tensei with Rudy, Rudy himself doesn’t think all that highly of his skills but if you look at it he’s fighting against the worlds strongest, Iris is very much in the same position just she was always praised before with her normal successes and due to her lack of maturity she let it go to her head.

Iris Midgar has better basic personalities than Alexia. Iris treated Cid with “respect”, unlike Alexia. Part of it could be is Cid is the younger brother of Claire whom Iris acquainted with. Before she lost to Mundane Mann/Shadow, Iris did not treat other people without respect. However, Iris’s defeat and humiliation from Shadow led Iris to become irrational and opinionated without a second thought. Having never lost before Mundane Mann/Shadow, Iris’s achievements and receiving praises from her kingdom’s people made her too proud. She is like a frog in a well (Asian proverb of one doesn’t about the world except his or her home area only). Furthermore, I wonder Iris performed well in academic areas other than swordsmanship because she seems to unintelligent and lack in common senses. Iris Midgar is similar to Amanogawa Kouki from Arifureta. Like Iris, Kouki did not faced any failures/defeats and realistic situations until he and his classmates teleported into Isekai, which Hajime criticized and Meld Loggins even apologized for being too soft on them (Meld Loggins intended Kouki and others to face the situations of killing bandits for them face more reality).
