My mother fed her Magpies too, one in particular used to come to the kitchen window and tap on it, of course we never ever got swooped by them. They are beautiful birds with such a beautiful song, I miss them so much along with the smell of the gum trees, I'm now in the US.

I'm so excited to find another left handed quilter on You-Tube. and am enjoying your videos. I had problems squaring up blocks UNTIL I ordered a Creative Grid left handed 61/2" square ruler. I now use it as a guide for squaring up larger blocks too. When lining up I have the diagonal line from top left to bottom right. So I then trim from the left side of the ruler across the top left to right then turn and repeat. I'm not sure if this will make it easier for you It certainly is for me. I only bought one but it has changed how I'm able to square up as a leftie. I just thought I'd share what I learned.

This is a head against the wall thumper for me! Actually, I got quite angry for a moment because such patterns make my brain hurt and I’ve never been able to see into the elements of the pattern. I tried hard to understand this pattern as a friend asked me to teach her to sew and this is what she chose. I couldn’t understand the construction. I could teach techniques but the next step, as the construction details emerged, were excruciating. It’s just how my brain works. But here! Oh, my! It was so obvious that it’s a simple AB/BA pattern. From a technical standpoint there’s some background noise in your video that you might be able to either eliminate or at least dampen down. I’m looking forward to checking back for other videos. Thank you!

I really enjoyed this simple approach to making a quilt that has been on my bucket list for quite some time. I got to wondering how the pattern will play out if you put all the same prints in the same diagonal rows! A criss cross I think! I plan to make it simpler still and do two colors only as my grandmother did - a print and a solid. Thanks again for sharing it!

4 of the blocks in the nine patch are made with the background fabric. If you look at the block that isn’t sewn into the quilt yet you’ll see they’re 9 patches. I love his method.
