Red is my favorite color, too! You would love how I decorated our living room, with colors very similar to the fabric you are working with in this video. I got a Gorgeous red sofa from Ethan Allen, and the red sprinkled throughout the room, in pillows and other fabrics on other pieces of furniture and in pillows, window seat cushions, etc. Great video as always.

That sounds beautiful! Red isn't for everyone though. I consider it a neutral!

Man, I don't know why my comment is so messed up! What I meant to say is: I really enjoyed this video and have downloaded the pattern. Would love to see how you quilted it. I think you asked for suggestions of blocks we would like to see: there is one called 'Hopscotch ' it has a triangle as the main design and then a star as a secondary design; also Hunter's Star (but, not the 'short cut' version where the diamonds are cut in half).would be nice. Thank you! You are amazing!

Love the pattern and thank you for sharing. Did you add the other 4 fat quarters into the pattern? If not what plans have you got for them? Love watching when you do a quilty box unboxing, doesn't it feel like you've just received a new present? That's how I feel when I open mine.
@LeahDay

You're very welcome Yvonne! No, I didn't use the four remaining fat quarters in this quilt. I may incorporate them into a future project or create another pattern just for them. It's always fun to play and see what we can create with the contents of a box. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it too!

Hi Leah! I greatly enjoy your videos. A question that I'd love your input on is: from your other videos I noticed you bought a mid-arm Juki and a Juki DX machine. However most of the time you use the DX home sewing machine to do your quilting. What makes you choose to use the home machine? Is it better, even, than h mid arm?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 7 жыл бұрын
I mostly demo on my home machines because more people have them at home. If I start quilting only on a longarm, a lot of quilters will think they have to have that kind of machine too, and you really don't have to have a longarm to do this. As for better or worse - each machine does some things better and some things not as good. I love the decorative stitches and feet I can use with my home machines and all the different things I can do with them. I love the harp space of my longarm and how much easier it feels to quilt, but it's set up in my house which is always noisy so it's hard to find time to film on it.

I had the same question, Leah had always said when teaching, that anyone can do this, no need for expensive manchines...etc....I bought a Janome DC2014 (purple) and it has been my workhorse.........if she had not encouraged us to start with domestic machines etc......a lot of us would not have taken that step. SO when she first started going up in machines it was kool...but when she went to long arm......ugh......I had to keep telling my self....nothing has changed,,,,I can do it on my machine.........But when I do go to a bigger machine I will be checking out all her videos again on use etc............but now I know there is no ONE machine............I do appreciate teachers that rate their machines and why they like/dislike them............anyway once the balloon busted, I was ok.......at first I thought it was like treason......lol we are funny humans we are......

Beautiful! Was there enough fabric from the 5 fat quarters to do the whole quilt? What size would it end up being with/without borders?
@LeahDay
@LeahDay Жыл бұрын
I honestly can't say! I would check out the free pattern, then use graph paper to figure out how you wish to change the design and fabric calculation from there.

@dianedavis3828
@dianedavis3828 2 жыл бұрын
I love this double Irish Chain and want to give it a go very soon! You mentioned you wash and iron your Fat Quarters before beginning... Do you serge or sew down the sides so they don't unravel? Most quilters who have tutorials I've watched have not done anything to their FQ's or any fabric they make into a quilt top. I'm new to quilting and confused.
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't bother trying to reduce fraying. I do clip the frayed threads before putting the fabric in the dryer, otherwise it tends to tie itself into a giant knot. There are lots of opinions in quilting, but no single "right" way to do any of this. You'll just have to try different methods and figure out what works best for you. Nothing to be confused about - just a lot of experimenting and experiences to gain!

I liked the selvage on some of the prints so I included it in a few cuts. Looking at the whole quilt, it's a tiny detail that shows up 3 places, but it was fun to include.

@LeahDay

That's a great idea! Use graph paper to plan the design and calculate the piecing. It's easiest to plan designs without seam allowance, then add it as you write your cutting list.
