Currently getting ready to start making my own clay pipes, nice to see others keeping it alive in a cigarette world.

Are you boys American I'm Irish and happy to hear you smoke your duidín's as the clay pipes are known here but I bet their not as nice as your corncob pipes I have a country gentleman and it's the best pipe I have to smoke.
@Tictacpanter Жыл бұрын
@@Minime163 Canadian. I have had a couple cob pipes. “Merschaum of America” as they are sometimes called. They also smoke pretty decently. I find the clay smokes hot in the hand but cooler in the mouth. The cob smokes pretty average. Good cheap pipes.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but would it be possible to use a hard wax center mould, press clay into both halves of your pipe mould and then just melt the wax out in the kiln?

Wow, she's very good. Neat how they say "kiln". My local dialect says "keel" like a boat, instead of her "killin". I'm going to make a few by hand, primitive style. This was a good video just the same.

The River Thames fore shore at low tide is littered with clay pipe stems and bowls dating from the 1600s to early 20th c. Many 19th c bare the makers name and location e.g Woolwich, Deptford, Battersea, Dublin etc and are highly ornate with military badges, fouled anchors, football boots, horses heads and all manner of commemorative details. Interesting and in many cases beautiful artifacts of a bygone age we sometimes forget they were the dog-ends of their day lol

I enjoyed this video; I live in the east cost of the US, near New York, and I am a pipe smoker. And a woodworker, I am currently employed by a church. And commissioned to make a small wooden crucifix/cross, I am sorry, rambling. I would like to purchase working clay pipes, so when friends stop-buy the shop, they can have a pipe of tobacco and keep the pipe. Like the days of old. Let me know if this is something your company would be interested-in. Ten at a time to fill a rack. Mike A Drover.

@stuartwilliams986810 жыл бұрын
Ethel buys in her clay from abroad, Scotland I think. You can contact her and sure she would give you the details. Original clay pipes made in Knockcroghery were produced from local sources of clay. So the clay in original antique pipes is quite different from that of Ethel's pipes. Also, Ethel used original 19th century iron moulds for her pipes.
@gagnradr10 жыл бұрын
Her in Denmark ball clay is called pipe clay so I guess you can use ball clay maybe adjusted with china clay. I think you can use may types of clay, but I would choose one with as little free silica as possible due the thermal expansion properties.
