John Waters is an Irish thinker, writer and speaker. We discuss the aftermath of the Irish General Election of 2024. Another 5 years of coalition government, the lack of any sizeable and organised opposition, legacy media bias in promoting some candidates while ignoring others, Gerry "The Monk" Hutch, the growing numbers of independent candidates and the impact they may have at the next election. The far right label is a way of labelling someone a fascist. The problem is that fascism is a left wing ideology. The nazi party was also known as the national socialist part, socialism is a left ideology. Communism is international socialism, fascism is a national socialism. Giovanni Gentile was the founder of fascism and he is a lefty. I associate the right with conservative values. Could you ask John what conservative policies have either FF/FG introduced in the last 2 and more decades?? To my mind we have fascism by stealth. Government control of the public sector through regulations, a state police force, the pushing of social issues by the WEF ie. Abortion. Ireland does not have a conservative government, and not in a long time.

@@inisboru3181 The Nazis were a "left-wing" party, appointed to government by a conservative President, in coalition with conservatives, backed by big business donors, supported by the police and the military, obsessed with an ancient mystical past, voted for by the same demographics who vote conservative (rural and lower middle-class), opposed by one left-wing party that maintained most of its support (SPD) and another who gained support during this time (KPD), all while locking up trade unionists. But yeah, left-wing.

There are about 70 left-wing TDs in the Dail, 39 of whom are organised into a single party. There is an opposition, and if those 70 decide to develop a common platform, there would be a path to a change of government next time. I have no expectation that that will happen, but that's hardly FF and FG's fault. Or Irish voters for that matter.

@@NoRiskNoReward1984 National-Socialist (Nazi) was indeed far right party as opposed to the Communist Party. The word "socialist" was just a populist catchword - certainly they weren't very social towards Jews, people with disabilities, religious and ethnic minorities and non-Nordic people in general and they would put you in concentration camp if you opposed their policies or if you missed a rally or a high-five hitler :)

Your arguments were destroyed by thoes who sided with Trump and putin types,it ended up as for Trump, putin, or agenst. There was no joining of the agenda and was not very well presented, you defeated yourselves.

Waters is a yesterday man still spouting the same old negative narrative. The country is doing well - it has similar problems seen in other countries and these will take time to fix - you would think by this narrative that people didn't know what they were voting for and were somehow bewitched. The country of Waters and his friends would have us have is not wanted. thankfully he is old and will be gone soon. He didn't say Hi to Gemma in his comments.
