The cheeky lyrics, the hilarious sing-along vibe, and that audience participation had me cracking up. Chuck Berry really knew how to keep a crowd entertained! Lets react to my dingaling!

It certainly evolved in the late 1940's, with acts like Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bill Haley, Fats Domino, Ike Turner, T-Bone Walker, etc. Impossible to state who invented the genre, but Chuck definitely belongs in the conversation.

Chuck "Father of Rock and Roll" Berry's music is some of the most influential music in Rock and Roll history. His song "Johnny B Goode" was one of 31 tracks of Earth sounds on the Golden Albums that were sent out of our Solar System on the Voyager I and II spacecrafts.They were launched in 1977 and are still traveling. The album was designed to show where Earth is located in our galaxy as well as the best of human creativity. His music is hugely respected. He had hit after hit in the fifties and sixties, and was widely imitated-for instance, "Surfin' USA" by The Beach Boys was clearly based on Chuck Berry's "Sweet Little Sixteen." The Beach Boys eventually gave Berry songwriting credit for it. Every rock guitarist owes Chuck Berry a debt of gratitude. Yet, somehow, "My Ding-A-Ling" was Chuck Berry's only number one hit. There's a reference to Chuck Berry in the movie "Back to the Future." Do you remember when Marty (Michael J. Fox) stepped in with the band at the school dance near the end of the movie? He told the band to play a blues riff in B, then played "Johnny B. Goode." Marvin, the guitarist with the wounded hand whom Marty stepped in for, called his cousin Chuck and said, "You know that new sound you've been looking for? Well, listen to this!," then held up the phone so Chuck could hear the song. The joke was that "Johnny B. Goode" was a hit record for Chuck Berry in 1958, so he was getting his new sound by listening to someone imitating him. Time loop humor. It's really weird to hear someone say Chuck Berry might have had more success as a comedian than as a musician. While "My Ding-a-Ling" was his only _#1 hit,_ Chuck Berry was one of the pioneers of rock 'n roll - he had an extensive musical career and released many very well-known songs and albums. You're already familiar with one of them if you've seen _Back to the Future,_ as it was Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" that Marty McFly plays on stage at his parents' high school dance.

Little Richard released his first song in 1951, Elvis in 1954, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Carl Perkins in 1955, Jerry Lee Lewis in 1956. Elvis released That’s All Right in July of 1954, Maybellene was released a year later as Chuck’s first single. How could Elvis or Richard be influenced by someone who came after them? Of in the case of Diddley and Perkins, the same year. Actually Chuck only saw music as a hobby not a career at first as he wanted to be a beautician. Elvis also never thought of it as a career, he was driving a truck and was only making a recording for his mom’s birthday.

I got my driver's license in December of '72. I had this song on an 8 track tape. I used to drive down the road in Lakeland, Florida (USA), with my windows down, this song blaring out of the speakers at full volume and me singing along. Good times in my 1968 Ford Falcon. Chuck Berry (aka the Father of Rock and Roll) first "hit the charts" in the second half of 1955. One of the songs he wrote, and is most famous for, is "Johnny B. Goode." It was semi-autobiographical. Chuck Berry also happened to grow up on Goode Street, in St. Louis. He was actively performing until his death in 2017, at age 90.

I'm not sure if I'm the first person here to point this out, but this is a cover. "My Ding-a-Ling" was originally written and recorded by Dave Bartholomew in 1952. A lot of R&B music from the 1950s is filled with raunchy double entendres.

Also My First Time Hearing Chuck Berry - My Ding A Ling. I was thinking that what the song was about since that's what they called it in 50's and 60's. Chucky Berry made it more comical giving women a chorus in the song too. Entertaining watching You Sing with the Song, Laughing and Smiling. This was number in like November of 1972 for I think two weeks. The live version that was number one was slightly different than this version. The hit flowed a little more. Chuck Berry had several hits in the 1950s. Johnny B. Goode was probably his biggest hit. School Days, Maybelline, and No Particular Place to Go were big hits for him too. He was a massive Influence on the Beatles, Keith Richards and several other Rock Greats. This song example was no testament to his prowess on the guitar though. He could solo and “Duck walk” across the stage. I guess in the early 70s the implications of these lyrics were enough to make so many buy that record. I was 12 when this came out & living in Spain. Dad was in US Air Force. Us kids learned the words real quick & walked around singing it all the time. I almost got my mouth washed out with soap when I walked into the house, singing it, from my mom until she listened to the words. She laughed & said , "I still don't want to hear you singing it." So that ended singing it at home. There were also some stations that refused to play it back then. Chuck had a number of hits, though this was his #1.

Usually when Diane presents a music reaction video my attention is pretty much divided between her and the video she is reacting to, but this time all my focus was on her cheerful face. I guess I just wanted to see how many shades of red she could blush! As many here are saying, Chuck was an early pioneer of the Rock n Roll genre. Many classic oldies are from Chuck. This performance was nearly 20 years into his music career, with so many hits it's hard to count. He's a legend of rock 'n roll...you should watch him on Belgium TV in 1965...still years into his career, but imo an iconic performance :). Johnny B. Goode is definitely the most well known, with Maybelline, Run Rudolph Run, Roll Over Beethoven, and No Particular Place To Go being right up there too.

I've never heard it b sung this way BUT I'm definitely a Chuck Berry fan. He did a lot of music and it was common music to our party environments as teen agers...... That's a long time ago, I'm 75 now and was raised in Northern Rhodesia - now Zambia.
