Diane, I was really worried for a second when you brought out that tall glass. I was worried you would drink a full glass of each one. I am proud of you for not filling the whole glass. You're allowed to pour the excess back into the bottle if you want because they're your bottles. It's not like you can contaminate the liquid. I used to love Jack Daniel's Tennessee Sour Mash. I haven't had it in a very long time because the last time I had it, I got violently ill and blacked out. It was during a rough time in my life. For the longest time just the smell of it nauseated me. I should try it again since I've got my tolerance for hard liquor back. (I've been taking better care of myself in the last few years, mostly eating more veggies and less sugar, and a lot of the quirks that were a result of my misspent youth have started to fade away). "I'm something but nothing, and if you put me in a bucket I make it lighter." It's a hole. "Alive without breath. As cold as death. Never thirsty, ever drinking. All in mail, never clinking." It's a fish. The mail refers to armor, as in its scales. It's a riddle from the Hobbit. :-) I hope your head feels better soon.

I've lived in Memphis, Tennessee for about 20 years. You're correct in the flavor. The apple's not good. But here's the thing about Jack Daniels; all that flavor stuff is relatively new. And other than the honey, it's kinda crap. If you ever do get the chance to visit Tennessee, they sell a a flight of Jack Daniels at the Peabody Hotel lobby. It consists of regular Jack, Gentleman Jack, and single barrel Jack. That's a much better valid taste test than any of the flavors. Specifically, gentleman and single barrel are much, much smoother.

Sour mash is huge tank of corn, water, sugar, and yeast. It sets for a couple weeks until it ferments. Then you light a fire under it to heat it up until it begins to steam. The tank is sealed except for one outlet that has a small copper pipe that is kinda long and curled into a spiral as it goes away from the tank. It's best to wrap the coil in a wet towel, as the steam cools it condenses into liquid, that liquid is moon shine. They take new oak barrels and light a fire in them until they're charred. They them out the moon shine into the barrels and store them for yrs so the burnt wood puts a taste and color into it. They also sell the barrels that they have used, chip them into small pieces, and you can cook over them on the grill and the smoke gives the steak a flavor.

Same with AA, they treat booze like a demon that should never be touched. This guy I am talking about was not like a town drunk, just a funtioning heavy drinker in his youth, married the right woman and is now doing good for himself (not a wealthy man, but a man who is doing it right and works for his family) he still drinks, but I mean like if he is eating with friends. Its not like he gave it up cold turkey. Its just no longer a priority for him.

My mom was born in Tennessee, about 20 miles from the Jack Daniel Distillery. I've been on the tour a couple of times and it's really interesting and stinky! The sour mash stinks so bad while it's fermenting! If you could see how it's distilled, you'd never drink it again. Jack Daniel makes coolers. Fun fact. JD Distillery is in a dry county. Years and years ago, at the end of the tour, the adults were given a tiny bottle sample of the original whiskey. Now they have fresh squeezed lemonade, instead. The coolers are strong! They used to have Tennessee Tea, Down Home Punch, Lynchburg Lemonade, and maybe another one. Lynchburg is where the Distillery is. If you're ever in Middle Tennessee, look it up and take the tour. If I'm remembering correctly there's no charge. BTW, sour mash is a mixture of grain, malt, and water. There is also some fermented mash put into it. I think there has to have dead yeast in it. The whiskey is aged in barrels to make it amber colored.

@@pauljackson2473 In the US a "pint" is 16 Fluid Oz (USCS), In the UK a "Pint" is 20 Imperial Ounces. In some Metric countries a "pint" (while NOT an SI unit..) is "rounded" to 500 Milliliters (half litre).

A bit of info on the apple, the label is the color of the apples they used, that's right, apples aren't always red here in America, they are often green and those green ones are used for candies, for pies, and for alcohol drinks.

"sour mash" is like "sour dough" they use a bit of the old batch of mash as a kind of starter to get the fermentation process going. just like in sour dough you use some of the old "starter dough" to get the yeast and flavor into your bread.

Sower mash is a corn whiskey that they run once and then take the mash that's left and add more sugar and yeast and let it ferment again and then run again it leads to a higher prof whiskey it's clear a d gets it color from aging and kegs that have been burnt on the inside and it soaks in there for a couple of years or so
