"Sounds like something you would make when you were drunk at 5 o'clock in the morning." While that probably has happened, a lot of people, including Americans, don't realize the origins. That dish was what poor people made when they were dirt poor and had nothing else. originally, it didn't even have sausage. it was gravy made from whatever grease you had, leftover bacon grease, lard, shortening, with milk and salt and pepper. and was served over whatever bread you had or could make, and buscuits were the easiest, and cost less than bread.

C'mon, of course it's what poor people made - there's literally nothing to it, it's all flour and fat! Same thing for most soups & stews, anything made from organ meats(the irony of the most nutritious parts being the 'scraps'/'waste'); the vast majority of human history hasn't lived like developed countries have since, say, the 1950s or so, most every dish is a result of what ingredients were common in that region.

No kidding. You don't put a pitiful spoonful of the "gravy" in the center and call it biscuits and gravy. It has to have visible sausage chunks and pepper to even come close to right. Then the biscuit has to be DROWNING in that gravy. Also, that biscuit should be from scratch, preferably of the buttermilk variety.

They are not open 24hrs but they only close for 5 hours. Im in Kentucky. The trick is using Cast Iron, Breakfast sausage, milk, flour, and some condensed milk to thicken. Then Salt and Pepper to taste. But the key to the flavor is the Cast Iron cause over the years it absorbs flavors of stuff you cook.Forgot the grease from the sausage, when you have it almost done you add the sausage back in.
@TheBrokenLife

Shawn Morris That's basically what I'm doing, but mine always turns out tasting sweet. Wouldn't the condensed milk make that worse? I've tried whole milk and butter milk before with the same result, but never condensed.

Black God acting like First Nations/Aboriginals(what most prefer to be called) are dead is an normal response from most Americans. We are still mostly a separate culture from most other Americans, and it's a normal occurrence to be told your the first they have ever met. your claim that whites came here and raped the land, seems to imply that First Nations weren't also doing it beforehand. The image you appear to have is of First Nations living in perfect harmony with the land. That image comes from after the largest (largely accidental) genocide in human history. Before the drop in population from ~100 to ~5million in the entire Americas, First Nations also depleted, destroyed, and over used resources in areas. At its population height the historic Los Angeles valley area was home to around 3-5 million people. That's not very conductive for harmoniously living wishing the areas resources. The practice of running buffalo off cliffs was also extremely wasteful; as their were no N.American pack animals before the colonialists brought horses, and everything had to be carried out by hand. I do take offence to your statement that Americans have no culture of their own. It might not have the long history of European cultures, but it is one none the less. We have taken the best of what each individual group brought, adapted the whole, and have something better than it's constituent parts. Here you aren't forced into fetishizing one groups specific culture, but see a part of your own in the whole. I do applaud your work in holding the federal government to the legally binding agreements they made. It takes real character to fight another's fight without a personal stake in the outcome.

Except they didn't like the gravy either. Let's face it, biscuits and gravy is an acquired taste. We southerners just developed it as a breakfast dish in the old days as a cheap breakfast food that used up the leftover grease in the pan to make a white sauce to stretch the food bill. When done right it is so yummy though. Gotta put sausage and black pepper in it.

I am recently in the South and biscuits aren't really a BBQ thing...I could be mistaken, but the gravy isn't smeared on like jelly, is poured over biscuits as if you're pouring over pancakes. Also, chocolate gravy is pretty fun!

Hey Facts! Buy a couple of your testers plane tickets and send them to the southern U.S.! I'd love to see there reaction to people's curiousity and hospitality going around from somewhere like Nashville to the TN mountains. (Yeah, I know it's too expensive but it'd be a hoot to watch)
