Very interesting! It's like someone pushed an EMD AAR stand on its back and made it a desktop control stand, complete with Bakelite throttle handle!

Love the sound of that 567 power plant. GM had a winner with that one. We had a lot of engines here in the US with that prime mover as well. Some of that track towards the end of the video looks like you could put a train on the ground pretty easily. Hope they're working on that.

I miss the sound of the Baby GM's. I grew up beside the line in Shankill and watched work the commuters before electrification. Even after that they double headed the Wexford express. The sound of my childhood :)

On this occasion it had been arranged before hand as part of the ITG's event at Downpatrick, you could still try your luck though, the staff can be agreeable.

Oh my goodness. Didn’t realise they had trains in Ireland. How quaint.

@EWS60008 Maybe when 146 returns to service you can apply for a cab ride if the Downpatrick Railway restart that offer!

@Rocketboy1950 Thanks for the video share, that sure sounds very similar, and much louder! I wish they'd get a new life, as the small Irish GMs are effectively retired now.

@Leadplug How do you know it's not one of those mongrel things that sticks and needs to be handled with some force to prevent getting three when you only wanted one.....had that happen plenty of times.

The young fella driving is not used to driving these gms Another trick with these was to release the train brake and apply the loco brake just before the train came to a stop
