Why is the 450 loco hauled?
@slendermanRblx5 жыл бұрын
I dont get why NIR withdraw their stock earlier than us on the british mainland like the 450s were only made in the 80s and are basically a class 205 in a class 150/2 body while the 150/2 are still in mainline service today
@RailVideosNI5 жыл бұрын
The big issue with the 450s was that the engines dated from the 60s as they were first used in the 70 Class (Which the 450s replaced) so the 450s were starting to get unreliable in their final days plus NIR were bringing in the 4000 class so the decision was taken to withdraw the 450s. 8 Sets were scrapped 451 452 453 454 455 456 457 459 but at least 458 was saved. However with the 80 class they were new in 1974 and were also starting to get a bit unreliable as they approached their first withdrawal in 2005 / 2008 all of them were meant to be replaced by the 3000 class however a small number of 80 class sets were refurbished and returned to service in 2009 they lasted until 2011 so in total doing 37 years of passenger service however they did not give up quietly 1 4 car set continued to run as NIRs Sandite train until 2017 and was then passed on for preservation at DCDR. Today the 2 car sets at Downpatrick 69 + 749 & 90 + 752. And Power car 99 which is located at the East Lancashire Railway are the only 80 class vehicles that survive.

Sounds like ive got a Trip to Bury on the cards! Never knew they had an 80 class there, if I did I’d have looked for it when I went up towards Baron St in June.

@@RailVideosNI 450 class number 8459 had an engine from an 80 class because there were only 8 70 class to be Salvaged so number 450 class number 459 had not have an engine from an 70 class
