Amazing seeing that they steamed up 131 for its move to Mallow, probably the first time for it in steam since it was withdrawn. I imagine it was a one off for the move at the time and only steaming lightly.

It looks it but wasn't quite in steam :) Info from GSRPS's Gerard McMahon: "The loco had a lubrication system rigged up for the journey south. This included the cylinders. The smoke was the result of compression in the cylinders causing the lubricating oil to partially evaporate and exhaust via the normal route through the chimney. Hence the smoke effect."

I remember the greystones shuttle when the push/pull was operated by a 121. The rolling stock was in awful condition and the entire carriage would rattle and vibrate like mad over every rail joint. Great video. Thanks for posting.

I've only seen a few clips of the 121 Class on the pushpull Greystones set - it was very shortlived!

Interesting,! Kingsbridge 1984 to see mk3s on 2. The ridge on the roof meant they weren't a supertrain😅

I went to school on the push pull trains in the late 70s from dalkey to ballsBridge .the railcars were dreadful junk .had plastic seats.

Yes seen photos of those and the bucket seats(!) on the pushpulls.

@@IrishRailwayRecordSociety in the winter water would pool on the seats so most people would end up standing

Orange plastic seats, if I remember right. And bolted on. The sort of seats you might find in a basic canteen.
