Rediscovering my old Dixon flute. Ain't that bad, is it? I tuned it down a bit because I think it sounds better this way.
The tunes are traditional Irish and the sheet music is here (and guitar chord info below):
Have a Drink With Me (jig): thesession.org/...
Mountain Top (reel): thesession.org/...
Sorry, I kinda messed it up at the end, hence our faces... lol
Thanks for watching.
P.S. My brother says: "my guitar tuning in this video is open G: DBGDGD. but i don't drop the last string, so i can have a more powerful E minor chord: so it is DBGDBE. thanks for the compliments! :)"
He also says:
"The chords are: G: x50030, C: x55050, D: x77070, E-: 099080, A-7:x22010 Gmaj7/B: x44030. So the chords go like this: in the first part of the first tune i play G, and in the second part i play C G D G C G D E-, C G D G C G D D. in the first part of the second tune i play G too, and in the second part i play A-7 Gmaj7/B G G(harmonic in 12 fret), A-7 Gmaj7/B D. that's it, you're welcome! :)" SORRY: Private whistle lessons are NO LONGER AVAILABLE (for now).

First off, I'm sorry for your loss. Not only is it great that you dedicate this to your grandfather...but also to your family. Take comfort in knowing that you can, hopefully, make great music with your brother for the rest of your lives. Cheers my friends...I've been watching you since your first videos. What great musicians you've both turned out to be. Keep it up.

@@ChrisDewin I'm not as good on the flute. But yeah, I have a Copley & Boegli in D, keyless. It's made of Delrin and it's both great and affordable. I also recently got a 6-keyed wooden flute by Breton maker Gilles Lehart, also great but I need to improve on it.

Hi. They are 2 type of Irish folk dance, Jigs are in 12/8 or 6/8 or even 9/8 rhythm, reels are usually 4/4.

And Slides are in 12/8: polkas and mazurkas are in 2/4: Hornpipes, barn and set dances are in 4/4 or common time. So there are more then 2 types .. And there are others.

@TinWhistler
@TinWhistler 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! With Irish flute, just like with low whistle, and unlike classical flute, you need to use what's called "piper's grip". That is, not using the tip of your fingers to cover the holes. However, unlike with low whistle, your top hand can stay normal (using the tips of your finger). It takes a while to get used to this but then it's fine.

Not sure if you'll see this, but I have a Dixon low D with a whistle head and had been considering trying the flute head since I've played classical flute for over 20 years. I asked people's opinions on a Facebook group and almost got entirely negative feedback, but you sound just fine, and I see you say "Ain't that bad, is it?" which seems like acknowledging that it isn't held in as high of esteem. It costs substantially less to just add the flute head than it costs to buy a whole flute, even though I might eventually want a "real" wood one. Any other feedback for somebody looking to turn my low whistle into a flute?
@TinWhistler
@TinWhistler 7 жыл бұрын
I love Dixon whistles but their cheapest flutes are just not good (I've heard of a better more expensive model but I have no idea). I've had to play this one for years because it's the only one I had, so I managed to get a "less bad" sound out of it, especially when tuned down like in this video. But not recommended. "Any other feedback for somebody looking to turn my low whistle into a flute?" Yes: DON'T. Instead, get a Delrin flute by Copley & Boegli for about €300 (my current flute now, it's as good as a wooden one).
