This is almost word for word the same in Canada for the Indigenous people. It is still very much happening. Thank you for speaking from your perspective. A lot of people just do not realize how often and how widespread this type of "conquering" happens. It breaks my heart. Thankyou again so much for speaking about this

What happened here in the U.S. is similar to what happened to Ireland with the genocide of the American Indians and the Trail of Tears. My Great Grandma was forced to go to an "Indian" boarding school in Oklahoma where she had to speak English, had to wear their clothes, take an English name, go to their church. If she spoke in her native tongue she was punished. If she was caught worshipping her native God's, spirits, etc. she was punished. She was a "savage" who had to be "saved" by their missionaries.

I am also Native American. I have an Irish grandmother from Galway. My husband was from a reservation in Montana. His people are still suffering from generational trauma. It shortened his life, and his families life's. They all passed in their early 60s. Yes John, I know where you're coming from. Thank you for this.

Thanks for this Jon. I really appreciate your thoughts, views, and perspective on this. You hit home on a lot of levels. The way you have phrased this I think is timeless. Thank you for the emotional labour you put into this. 💜

Thank you for speaking, Jon. I had just listened to Jewish child psychologist Dr. Gabor Maté's view on this terrible situation directly before you and I highly suggest you do as well. You both had beautifully insightful words to share for everyone. Thanks again.

Thank YOU for sharing, it's no easy feat. It's not easy to be impartial to these things, especially when but directly involved or impacted, even if you relate and understand. I love listening to your videos no matter what the content. The uncomfortable silence is something we all need to acknowledge, and process why we feel it. I am able to do the most thinking while working, and today was no different with this one. ❤

Every day, i try to take coffee with you and this morning, i am especially moved and touched by your words. My family comes from many religious traditions, We have Catholics, Jewish, Muslims (Egyptian and Turkish), Jews, Buddhists, Pagans and Wicca. The icing on the cake is that my dad is gay and my son is Autistic. And I love the perspective and respect that you bring to this very painful discussion. I often stop conversations dead in their tracks by asking people which side of my family would you wish me to hate? Explaining this to my very bright but very black and white thinking teen has been really difficult. But you have given me a powerful tool that I will now use. If you have power, and children are dying you are doing it wrong. My kid attend s a highschool were there was a mass shooting and many students and teachers were killed. The scars of the survivors are still really fresh, many of the teachers are still teaching in the the school. If you have the power and children are still dying, you are not doing it right. you are spot on as usual and i am thankful for your candor, your honesty, and your tenacity to bear witness to the modern tales and provide such rich context.

Jon, that was so powerful. I am so grateful for yours and Lora's recent posts. They were very much needed during this time. I've studied a bit of Irish history, so I get where you're coming from, and you're right. 100%. So, thank you for sharing deeply personal feelings and your wisdom as a Bard.

Thank you Jon, You put so eloquently the things that I feel towards this. I have friends on both sides and it's hard to navigate when all I feel is that why do so many children have to die. It just makes my cry

Thank you so much for this and also thank you for sharing that about the O'Connors and O'Sullivans. I had no idea. I've always wondered how my father's family became "Conners without the O", and now I have a lead to follow. (Also, thank you for all your empathy, compassion, and vulnerability.)

Good video, Jon. I respect the emotions and that you aren't doing what so many are doing right now, and glibly picking a team to cheer for in the bloodbath. I carry permanent damage to my eyesight as a result of a sectarian beating I took as a kid in the North, and hence can never drive. I also carry anger issues because I learned, when young, that the only chance I had of backing off someone bigger and stronger was to go fecking psycho and make sectarian thugs think I was too scary to tackle. For me, questions of power will always come down to the power of the man with the gun, knife or just big fists over the person in front of him. Ireland, India, Israel - three places where Brits drawing lines on maps have caused complexity and carnage. I can't wholeheartedly support any side in this conflict because it all looks like despair, horror and carnage to me. Like anywhere else, both sides need to stop fighting for long enough that they can start talking, because a military victory for either side comes at the cost of atrocity.

"Mitakuye Oyasin"(A Lakota word); when I think about all the rainbow roots that are part of me(Scandinavian, Norse, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Spanish, Italian, Egyptian, Amazingh, German, Illyrian, and so much more, including healing with Jews/Muslims, including English, French, & some Romans too) & indigenous Native American(Mapuche(connected to indigenous Jomon of Japan/Hokkaido), Quechua(connected to Tibetans), Mayan, Central Americans related to Kogi, North American Eastern Plains and Forests, Amzonian, Sonora Desert, and Arctic Islands totaling to 16 percent of who I am alone), it helps me see how we are all ultimately interconnected(Mitakuye Oyasin; "we are all related"); when I spoke to a indigenous woman of Lakota, Cherokee, Mayan, & Hawaiian descent known as Hyapatia, she told me I was blessed to have the colours of the rainbow connected to the indigenous people of Turtle Island/Anishinabe and Abya Yala(from the tip of Alaska to the bottom of Chile) as well as the four colours of the medicine wheel, which brought healing; for me, I am still Irish & really Gaelic(it's still part of my roots), but I am so many other roots, so when people ask me "what are you?" I tell them I am still a "Rainbow Gael", but I am also ultimately "I am the rainbow" 100% 🔥🌧🌈🌊🌬⛵

Can't help but think about how when the Tuatha De Danann fought the Fir Bolg, each side shared their technology with the other so that the fighting would be evenly matched. Not a lot of that happening :'(

O Sullivans also dropped the O in the diaspora to the US for the same reason: conformity to English American control structures.

Colonialism and imperialism have brought suffering to a large potion of humanity for far too long. As a veteran of the US armed forces I am disgusted with the conduct of the country I reside in. I do what I can to organize people to bring positive change to the USA. At this point being an expat would be outstanding.
