I worked on Brunswick pinsetters in 83 and we always checked to make sure the machine set the pins on spot, if you didnt get a strike there were mechanisms like scissors with rubber on them that picked them up and set them down on spot, and sometimes a rubber would come of the scissors evidently these pins were pretty far off also sounds like there is a cracked pin, not good prep for a Nationally televised event,
