Iris van Herpen really is a standout in the age where fashion has become so widespread and expansive. What she's doing is not only impressive and unique from the technical side of things, but also their creative aspect. Her work seems very otherworldly and I believe the future of elegant fashion lies on this path. In a sense, you could say fashion is the most art-like of all art, becouse you become part of it. Iris encapsulates that perfectly.

I always imagine how helpless I would be in real life if someone like the model in the purple and blue walked into a room I was in. I suspect I'd go weak-kneed and stare at her like how 5-year-old kids stare at ME when I walk into a room, haha! I would myself suddenly be that 5-year-old, staring without shame because I too just couldn't help myself, LOL, it would be as if I were hypnotised. What a magnificent vision that model is in that spectacular show-stopper of a piece. Wow.

@@jukkalepparanta2463 haute couture has never been associated with comfortable clothing. There are many different branches of fashion like streetwear which is comfortable clothing but haute couture isn't one of them mostly because it was never meant to be one
@jukkalepparanta24636 жыл бұрын
donuts globonuts Yes, please sensei, teach me fashion. Comfortable =/= wearable. Many Iris's dresses are very artistic and perfectly wearable despite not being comfortable. You're wrong anyway. Haute couture was originally the epitome of fashion and hand made craft and quality. It's in the name "haute couture" for goodness' sakes. They were clothing designed to be sold for the most exclusive of clientele. That's embedded in the Chambre Syndicale's rules as well: "- Designs must be made-to-order for private clients, with one or more fittings" The concept of haute couture is still this very same thing if only the collections have become more avant-garde since a few decades ago just like prêt-à-porter. The collections have become sort of catalogue of possibilities where the clients pick and choose what they like. Iris is a bit exceptional in this regard due to the laborious nature of her work, but she is an invitational member after all.

This reminds me so much of marine life: In the beginning, it looks like the upper oceanic layer. The music that hints to air bubbles occassionally rising, those vibrant colors with fin-like/coral-like shapes and I love how they accentuated those looks with minimalistic yet vivid colors on the models' hair... Even those faces which are incorporated in those dresses remind me of organisms that are trying to deceive their predetors or even the opposite way, predetors camouflaging themselves (face cage in that video). As the video proceeds, it gets darker, as if one is entering the deep sea where the sunlight never reaches. The music suddenly shifts from having clear sounds to damped thuds with a lot of echoes, highlighting the vast emptiness in the deep sea. The two light sources are those on the floor and some brighter spots where the models' appearance flashes past you, like a flashlight that managed to catch a marine life's beauty and scary shapes before it got scared away. Some models remind me of jellyfishes with their deadly tentacles, floating around and waiting for their preys. The models are not walking in straight lines anymore, they are seemingly walking in a chaotic yet fluent way, flowing past each other. Towards the end, more and more of the models are standing around, not moving, staring into the void as if their time has stopped, just like marine life in the deep sea. The creatures have no sunlight and rely on sinking minerals and prey for energy and in order to get them, most of those animals just float around with little to no movement, spreading out their deadly fangs/tentacles in the hopes of food. It is as if time has no meaning to them, they are untouched by time but at the same time they appear to be trapped in it; Fixed; Chained. They just "exist" in the darkness... Just like mankind floating around in space, existing and the only thing that has a valid meaning for the universe and thus us is time. Bound by time as long as we managed to understand it better... Until then, we just exist because of time, yet we do not understand it fully.

Ines De La Hoya Elie Saab creates pretty and conventional dresses. The fabrications with the embroideries are amazing but the silhouettes and shapes are never anything new or exciting. Versace haute couture is definitely a bit more along that direction of McQueen. It just doesn't get much attention because the RtW clothes are tacky garbage. Shame really.

These were so fantastic (as always). I especially loved the red mesh like dress near the beginning. The way it moved and the blurring effect it created was amazing!

Without doubt, to date, the most important designer bar none. Iris van Herpen' work is extraordinary and touched with genius. Awe-inspiring talent.

This really took my breath away, these clothes are like from another world and so mesmerizing. Sometimes when people experiment with clothes I just think it's weird, but this was like seeing a beautiful moving painting, a masterpiece.

Gucci sells some of the most ugly stuff ever for thousands of dollars. These dresses and clothing in this video are worth way more and super creative than some t shirt that says Gucci on it.

Iris van Herpen is simply amazing, nothing short of magical. She does things with fabrics that other designers would never even dream of, never mind actually attempt. She is, I think, about three centuries ahead of her time.

I have no other words than "Holy Shit"...that's not me trying to be disrespectful but these dresses are actual pieces of art and not just trash thrown together like most "fashion" nowadays. They're stunningly beautiful. I'm completely fascinated by the combination of topography with fashion and form.

It seems to me like Iris Van Herpen make and design clothes to cater to our dream - self , or some ethereal beings the English language has no description of as of this moment. The clothes are out - of this world, like they were conceived from some otherworldly dimension. In a world where no one strives to be original anymore, I love it.
