Good review. The Breitling looks the best. The other two are just market leaders rather than best looking.

I agree. The Submariner has the overall best build quality, fit and finish though. The SuperOcean wins for bracelet comfort but the bracelet is a little “jingly/jangly.” All three are fantastic and timeless pieces IMO though. I’m thinking about a Tudor Pelagos next unless they unveil and Tudor Black Bay with ceramic bezel at Basel World.
@Another_User_Name_3 жыл бұрын
The Breitling is clearly the best looking of the 3 watches. To your average non-watch person, the Breitling has the least name recognition. Considering also that the Breitling is 2-3 times less expensive than the other 2, it's a no brainer for me.
@IrixGuy3 жыл бұрын
The Breitling SOH (aluminum bezel) and Breitling SOHII (ceramic bezel like mine) are both exceptional pieces. If you look on Chrono24, you’ll see how rapidly they’ve been appreciating. I don’t expect it to be a more affordable option much longer. Breitling does any incredible job with the case and overall finishing. I love this pieces but a couple of areas where it’s not king (I’m being knit-picky) is the clasp and bezel click action. Rolex wins in those two area for sure.

This is an old post but I have to add this statement the Seamus and the Super Ocean are just a few hundred dollars apart depending on the exact model the Submariner if you can get one was about $8,900 hundred at the time. The Breitling is soooo pretty. However: If longevity, ruggedness and overall "tooly-ness" are what you're looking for in a diver, I'd take a Sinn. They're crazily overbuilt (some are made from submarine-steel) offer useful features like an argon-filled interior and built-in silicate capsules to keep humidity out and most are highly anti-magnetic. I mean, there's a reason why German special forces units issue these watches to their field operatives. I'd probably go for the EZM 3, which is quite a bit cheaper than any of the three shown here (~€ 1,700 on a steel bracelet IIRC). Then again... if looks were more important, I'd go with the Breitling. Never liked that style of Seamaster and wouldn't want to take part in the Rolex BS that's currently going on. Having to either wait for years to get one for MSRP or pay crazy money on the grey market for a mass-produced stainless steel dive-watch is just silly... :)
@IrixGuy4 жыл бұрын
Sinn certainly makes a great piece. I bought my Submariner 114060 before the excessive price hikes and “shortages.” It’s the best one Rolex IMO (not a huge Daytona fan). It’s crazy how Omega recently has been pricing themselves into Rolex territory and my guess is that Breitling will do the same. The addiction has become too expensive LOL

Disclaimer: I own a Breitling Super Ocean Heritage II 44 chronograph B01. Rolex Submariner: very functional, pure, hardcore dive tool watch; boring and dull looking; unreasonably overpriced due to marketing strategy; too many counterfeit causing many ordinary people query the owner having a fake one by default; really hold up the value; (overwhelmingly) excellent for investment; not a very sensible choice for watch enthusiast. Omega SeaMaster 300m: very hardcore dive watch but at the same time also aesthetically trendy, energetic, appearing and functional as well; (for the latest generation, display case back, co-axial escapement, master chronometer, etc.); reasonably priced; much more pleasing to watch enthusiast. Breitling Super Ocean Heritage II: an hybrid of dive watch and dress watch; only 200 meter water resistant and tiny luminescent indexes made it less desirable for serious diving but quite suitable for water surface activities, relatively classic and elegant look thus more utility, (sadly) the brand relatively less renowned to the public; can't hold its resale value, really needs watch enthusiast who passionate enough to appreciate it.

I have a 7.5" wrist. This is the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage II 42mm. Unless you like "HUGE watches," I'd suggest it in 42mm. I also wear a PAM00112 44mm, Rolex 114060 40mm and several others. I've found 39mm - 42mm to be the "sweet spot" for me. With this said, my first "real piece" after the Omega SeaMaster 300m was the Breitling Super Avenger that I purchased in 2009. That was when the "HUGE watch" was the norm though. Go to an AD and try them on. I'd suggest 39-42mm range for today. That's not to say that the "HUGE watch" may not come back in fashion.

That color combo sounds great! I always research and know what I want to buy before visiting the AD. They were trying to push the SuperOcean Heritage II 44mm because “I have large wrists” but in reality they were trying to unload the less desirable size. 30mm-42mm is the best sized watch in my opinion. I agree with you the Rolex submariner bezel action is the best, I’ve never experienced a bezel action as good as the submariner. I really enjoyed turning the bezel but that’s about it. The watch annoyed me because it would lose power over night most nights and also the date would be impeded when the hand covered it. My favourite is the breitling super ocean. I don’t need to turn the bezel as I’m not a diver. However aesthetically the watch looks stunning. I have the black and gold version 44mm. I always wear big watches even though I have a 7 1/4 inch wrist. The breitling superocean is my dress watch. My favourite watch is my Zenith type 20 extra special chronograph with the el primero movement. It is the most accurate watch I have bar my breitling colt superquartz. In terms of automatic watches the zenith wins hands down and being a pilot it is also more functional for me.

@TheJamesd904 жыл бұрын
@@IrixGuy Well since I own it, I like it quite a bit! With the new movement and build quality put into the new watch, I think it is now very comparable to the submariner. I do worry how it will age since it won't patina (your classic model with the patina looks awesome!) but as mentioned, the sapphire crystal and ceramic virtually make make the front of the watch scratch free. In regards to Omega, you're right that they are getting ambitious with their pricing (James bond 300m model at 10k?!?!), but I feel this new 300m is priced right. @ Irix Guy’s Adventure Channel - I really hope you enjoy your Sub in good health and you would of course be foolish to part with it in the current market but I still don’t see why the hype is justified. They make out that it is the best dive watch in the world and sheeple on the internet go with that as they wish to court popular opinion for their channels. Rolex is to many THE brand to have and everything they do is amazing but if you take a few steps back and take a good look at their “history” and their watches when compared to several other brands at around the same price point you come up short, very short. The sub for example was not the first and not the best (Blancpain the first and arguably the best; GO’s dive watch is better as are Omega’s offerings arguably - Omega 300m diver outspeccs every Sub that predated it for eg and has real military history). What exactly is so great about the Sub and it’s history that makes it so much better that the ridiculous hype and continued interest is justified?
