Real video from IRKUTSK ethnik percussion group «ETHNOBEAT». We playing on frozen water of deepest and oldest Lake Baikal with pleasure and delight in the soul:)

Recording has been made with Rode Videomic Stereo wearing DeadCat wind muff. You can see this setup in the titles at 3:50 (and a few DeadCat hairs were captured accidentally on 1:23-1:50). Yes, it's the great mic.

Frozen lakes make some of the most alien sounds on Earth. When the lake freezes in winter and it cracks and pops as the ice shifts around, sometimes I go down there at night, walk out a ways and lay on the ice in the bitter cold and silence and just listen to the bizarre sounds the lake plays for me. The whole lake reverberates with these spooky pops and whistles and howls. Our lake hasn't frozen completely for a few years. Really hoping it does this year so I can do that again.

To everyone who thinks this is a fake, READ DESCRIPTION. There's a list of equipment used for recording, and your comments only prove this is the great gear :). Some off sync is possible during mixing several different tracks, though, but anyway all this is LIVE ICE SOUND. And, you can't get the same sound in other places; even on lake Baikal it depends on ice condition, exact place, weather, season etc. We tried to repeat this one year after with no luck. Wish us luck next year :).

This is AMAZING! I think, especially because these are not fixed predictable formations, so the sounds can vary in unpredictable ways, from piece to piece. I had to laugh though, because @1:23 made me want to say, "more cow bell" ! Lol ;)
