One thing I appreciate about Roombas is how user-serviceable they are. Such a rare thing now a days where most things are just throw away.

Same. They may be overpriced for what you're getting, but they get credit where it's due: they seem like they're built to be repaired.

Sir. You single handedly saved my i7. I left my puppy out and she had an accident. She trigged midnight which started a clean job and I was mortified to find it sitting in a pile of s**t. I could have cried.. that is until I found your video. Although I didn't need to pass the wheel removal section I would have not been happy camper as this is about a 1 month addition to my family. I sanitized and let all parts dry and put Midnight back together very confidently. Thank you so very much for the extremely detailed video.

Got one of these as a gift a few weeks ago, but always thought they were stupid gimmicky wastes of money. I owe iRobot a huge apology because not only has it proven to be incredibly useful but I noticed when cleaning the brushes today that almost every part looked user serviceable. Glad to see that's indeed the case, and what a surprisingly simple, but clever design these things have... Huge props to the engineers at iRobot.

Awesome video. The little brush you are asking about is a ElectroStatic Discharge. It's just a ground to help prevent building up too much static charge. Electronics don't like that sort of thing.:)

Suction motor died on mine in just 2 years. I ordered a replacement. While removing the motor I did not pay attention to the PCB connector orientation when removing it. Many thanks for the video especially 4:25 seconds. Confirmed I have the right orientation for the board.

The little brush is a Static discharge wick. Because of different surfaces the little guy builds up static electricity. The discharge wicks work as a ground to dissipate that static build up.

The tiny brush is for static discharge. The hole across from the side brush is a sensor to make sure the roomba is on the ground. Like a mouse pointer. Thank you for the video. Got a project to do

Good tear down, the large extractor housing you took apart, the motor up front drives the extractors and the motor in the back that had a round housing and grills is the fan motor. The Cat symbol is where the proprietary USB port to change software and to hack the Robot 😂 PS almost at 200 subscribers 😬😬😬👍🏻

Nice and informative video, thank you for posting... Just to add that the procedure of removing top-plate cover is the same at Roomba 6(55) (is it attached with the clips like at 7:57). I have used a flat screwdriver as a leverage from behind.

If you look closely at that slot with the cat on it, there is an access port which can be accessed if you remove the bin, there is a rubber cover that makes it almost unnoticeable. This must be some kind of expansion slot that will likely never be used.

1. I also have that tiny brush on my i7 but don't know the purpose, 2. That works with the navigation, its a floor tracker. Its also a backup for the camera in case it fails or the lighting in the room its cleaning is too dim. Ever looked on the bottom of a computer mouse? (it works with the same technology)

On your video you mentioned a challenge disconnecting the front bumper cable from the tiny connector on the motherboard? Even do I was very careful, I pulled the entire connector from the motherboard as the soldering is very weak to say the least. Did this happen to you? How did you fix it? It does not have leads big enough to solder it back in place.

I was looking for videos like this because I just ordered a decal for my Roomba 960, but there is a bumper decal the covers the transparent plastic on the bumper, and I don’t know if there are sensors that I would be covering up. Are their like infrared sensors unaided the bumper? Thank you!

Wish you went further. I have to remove the cliff sensors to deep clean pet waste. Was hoping you knew how they came off. I got as far as you, but I can't seem to figure out how they come out of their slots. Update: Motherboard replaced on my IRobot select J7+. But now my old I7 is no longer lining up right to dock. So I have to figure out that now. Maybe too many scratches on the bumper or something wrong with the top beacon.

you missed the obvious question regarding the cat why is there a plastic slot under the cat , and a connector on the motherboard. clearly there's an optional module that can be put inside there.. perhaps something to do with cat hair But what module is it Also Does ANYBODY know a source for replacement parts, the vacuum motor on my I7 is toast, out of warranty and they want me to fork over 50 bucks for inspection and then the repair cost Irobot won't sell me the replacement part on it's own.. useless
