please compare the effectiveness of mopping of the j9+ vs a comparable roborock. I want something that can deal with dog hair AND tracks from dirty paws. My i7 still wraps all the dog hair around the rollers which means it has to be cleaned after every use.

An interesting thing I saw was a magazine interviewed iRobot's CEO and asked why the j9+ doesn't wash the pads, and she responded that it wasn't sanitary. That heat + darkness + water over time would make it more likely for bacteria and mold to grow on the pads and parts. Meaning you still need to manually clean the base station and pads. So for now, they don't do that because they would want to make sure it sanitizes the pads to prevent such growths from occurring. I feel like that's a bit of a cop out... but also, she has a point. People already complain about needing to buy bags and such instead of a reusable bin... what's the chances that they're going to always be buying cleaning solution and putting it in the tank too?

Imagine using a piece of wet cloth mop the entire home without washing. How clean can the floor be. Trying cleaning the soiled laundry without detergent and dry, see if they smell after. People have been using vacuum cleaners with bags for year before these are invented. Nobody complained. Healthy, cleaner are just marketing words. Accessories are an issue because nobody imports them or feared being sued and plus hefty tax thus up the price many folds.

I hope people won't expect these other vacs to be entirely hands off. I think you'd still want to take the pads off weekly and throw them in the washing machine and rinse the dirty water tanks. If so then the 'rinse and dry' approach is probably fine

Now there is automatic water disposal and supply from plumbing already as a norm for the other brands, so user don’t need to dispose the dirty tank and refill clean tank. Also auto detergent dose to wash the mop pads is a feature too in other brands.

Just got the J9+ Combo this last week and once you get it all setup and have your house mapped properly - WOW! Like holy WOW! It takes a few days and you might need to map several times then manually set each room but after that that j9 keeps all the dog hair and paw prints off my wood floors like a dream.

Based on the description of these new robots, Irobot is still behind the times. First, they are still using VSLAM, they should have switched to Lidar since Lidar is much better at creating a map. It will be interesting to see what the battery size is in these new bots. I have no idea what the price will be on these but the combo J9 is still missing some major features that other high end robots have. It can now refill the water tank which is good but it doesn't clean the mop pad, you still need to do that yourself and the mop does not vibrate or spin.

I guess it might have to do with past patent infringe in China. Irobot had been suing many robovac makers in the past and may have failed to secure Lidar patent in China. And if you look at how restrained irobot machines design are, it might be to avoid being sued. Just what I can deduced around .

I have the following on my Amazon wish list, and as of today the prices are; Ecovacs T20 Omni - $989 iRobot J9+ Combo - $1399 DreameBot L20 Ultra - $1499 Roborock S8 Pro Ultra - $1599 That's a huge price difference, do the prices reflect/justify the differences in performance and features? I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and buy one but decided between these is very hard. We have a home that is mostly tile and hardwood with throw rugs. We want the best, is that the Roborock? I have the J7+ and it has been so disappointing. I don't see any changes in the j9+ to get excited about. I don't see an improvement on the whisker brush, where there should really be two directing dirt into the front of the vacuum. I didn't see any mention of changes to the rollers as it seems those constantly get clogged up on the ends with pet hair (same with the whisker base and the omni wheel). The obstacle avoidance is iffy at best. I had a catnip mouse toy get run over and jammed in the rollers, gouging out a 1 inch wide gap in them. So, so much for avoiding obstacles and destroying the rollers in the process. I have all hardwood floors and even on an ideal platform for the Roomba to do well, they manage to disappoint.

LIDAR might make for faster mapping and less bumping into things, but mapping is a one time thing so not a big deal, and my i7 navigates pretty well. I don't care what tech it uses if it works, and at this point irobot's software is likely heavily built around vslam and vision based navigation. Although weirdly I'm pretty sure my old 660 used to be much softer at navigating, slowing down and just gently tapping walls before turning around. the i7 just bounces into them like it doesn't care

Thanks to their dual brush rollers and dust bin full sensors they really aren’t. Those are absolute game changers for people with long haired pets. I had an ecovacs before my j7 and hated it. The brush was tangled with hair after every single vacuuming and it crammed the dust bin so full of hair it never auto emptied. It required more work than it was worth. I don’t have to touch my j7 for weeks and just to check up on it and shake out the hepa filter.

It is also important to test their apps. I found that the Ecovacs app is so hard to use. It requires registration and logging in to use. It has a large useless shopping tab. It does not allow “vac only” mode in its vac+mop models. And it does not allow renaming rooms. And a lot of text and content overflows. So terrible the app is that I thought it was made in 3 days.

My Combo j7+ vacuums great, but has never really "mopped" the floor. Yes, it puts a pad down and emits 3 stripes of water, but the lack of pressure does very little, if any, cleaning. The pad doesn't even get damp all the way across, there are three inch-wide stripes of water behind where the emitters are located. I've even left the same pad on it for a week and it wasn't dirty after mopping every day.

I love my regular J7 overall, but it really does suck at getting dirt in between grout on tile and the battery life is abysmal. I basically only get 1 hour of it cleaning carpet before it has to go back to the base and recharge.

There are still one or two things that Roomba do a lot better than for example roborock: Obstacle avoidance and deep cleaning (carpets). And those are selling points for certain customers and usecases over Roborock or others.

s9+ had 40x more suction than the 600 series. The j7 and i3 had 10x the suction of the 600 series. The video says that the j9 has 100% more than the previous models of j and i so that would mean 20x suction if I am correct.

I really wish someone could explain to me why irobot haven't taken the scooba tech and put that into a decent vacuum. The scooba was nothing short of amazing. I didn’t see anything about washing or drying the mop which is a big deal as it will have bacteria and mold on the mop pad and on the top of the vacuum. I unfortunately bought the J7+. The worst robot vacuum I have ever bought or seen for that matter. Garbage. And iRobot said its an environmental thing. I said so it’s my fault your vacuum dosent work right. They said it’s your home. We’re sorry we can’t help you. Do yourselves a favor and don’t buy one. Unless you like a company who won’t support you and a vacuum that cost a lot and will constantly ram into things and scuff up your walls and furniture.
