I just realised how emotionally invested I am in this how because I'm actually crying. I love Iroh, because he changed, he was everything he was taught: a war man, a cruel general, he wanted to conquer because he thought his kingdom was the gifted one, but then he heard, he listened to other people, other nations, he was able to learn and grow as a person. Sometimes I feel his character is loved only under the condition of him being the compassive, wise uncle who's always enlightened by the spirit world, but he has flaws, he didn't have that much mercy towards Azula (for example) but that doesn't mean he's any less valid as a character. I don't remember what I wanted to say lmao I just love him so much

Konstanza Valenzuela Sanhueza not having mercy towards Azula isn’t a flaw. It shows some people are out of their minds, and there is no reasoning when it comes to their cruelty. You can only be so compassionate until are naive, and some people need to be eliminated one way or the other.

I think that when it comes to Azula it sounds like he tried to at least get Zuko to give her a second chance since in one episode (don't know which) Zuko says something along the lines of "I know what you are going to say, that I should not fight Azula and try to be friends(/siblings) again" to which Iroh replies "No no, she's far gone" or something similar. Too me it sounds like Iroh has tried to get Zuko and Azula to be on good terms with eachother at least a few times (aka giving eachother a second chance and actually thinking Azula was worth a second chance) and that's why Zuko thought he would say that this time, but by now Iroh had realised what Azula had become and that there wasn't any way of recovering her (at least not without defeating her first). Sorry if I feel annoying with this response but I feel like Iroh actually had given Azula some kind of second chance even if it wasn't on screen and she blew that chance and possibly a few more.

Ursa and Iroh gave Zuko all that he really needed. Unconditional love and support. Because of them, he is guided to eventually make actual friends in his former enemies. Ozai and Azula only taught him pain and suffering.
