Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000 (Part 1) 4K

I used to think the Iron Butt was kinda idiotic. Who wants to rush through 1000 miles so quickly? Wouldn't people rather enjoy the ride, take their time? Yet here I am embarking on a Saddlesore 1000. Attempting to circle Lake Michigan and complete 1000 miles in under 24hrs. It took a good amount of planning and some on the fly adjustments. And you know what? I loved it.

I remember when Whit did that SS1K on her Sportster. It was brutal. I’m in the middle of enjoying part one of your SS1K videos, I will watch all of them. I’ve completed an SS1K, and a Bun Burner 1500 Silver.

Great video; helpful, thorough. Thank you. Did you stop too often for gas and receipts to document? I agree with stopping often to stretch, etc, but gas stops are slower, etc. Great idea to map out each stop and have everything, especially the addresses, on paper ahead of time.

Yeah. I was trying to balance out stoping to rest and get gas at the same time. Worked out pretty well. I did stop a couple other times quick just to get some water from my bag. It was fun and having it mapped out a head of time. For me made it a little more exciting with the anticipation of finishing each step.

In 2003 I did my SS from Glenwood Springs, CO to Winona, MN 1100 miles in 17 hours. I did freeways only after sunset and 2 metro areas. After sunset because of potential deer strikes. The metros were Denver and Omaha.

Nice! Look forward to the second half. I had mine planned two weeks ago until this guy Ian shoved his eyewall right through our neighborhood. So, next month it is North Fort Myers to Destin FL and back. Original plan was a loop around the Smokies and back but temps are dropping quickly up north.

Hope you are all ok from Ian! It was a ton of fun. Part 2 is going up tonight. So many videos to go through. Did tail of the dragon last weekend. It was a little on the chilly side in the evening but I was able to make it down and back up to Michigan. Heated seats, grips and about 18 layers helped! haha
