I just got this about 3 weeks ago. With the expansions. It’s pretty fun. Good way to pass time.

The final expansion, Iron Chest, is going to the crowd sale next week. New stuff, environments, henchmen, minis, etc... It's going to open up the game to new possibilities. I'm rather excited!

By chance I just finished reading the Strugatskys' Roadside Picnic. and that game intro you read put me in the mind of Red making his one last run into the Zone. I am tempted by this one. Two of best games I've bought in recent years were from The Game Crafter. The first is a very complex, tactical Napoleonic game that only a true wargamer could love (1811: Albuera), but the second might be of interest to you Daniel. It's Breakaway Football, which is not only the best sports game I own, but probably in my top 10 list of solo games. It's American football, elegantly abstracted down a bit, with some RPG-like elements added in terms of each team's special abilities. Highly, highly recommended, even for dungeon delvers. Of course, as it's from the TGC, it's not cheap, but still worth every penny in my mind. Thanks for these videos.

I was a little hesitant to buy this game but I'm glad that I did. I always appreciate games that do a lot with a little. The resource management and press your luck are great and it is perfect for nights when I want to play something simple.

This is my favourite light solo card dungeon crawler. Adventure packs are obligatory!

Game is all good except that combat often feels really deflating. Spent 5 energy on a combat, lost 7 health early. How am I going to recover? Probably won't, so motivation to keep playing is lost. There needs to be a rest mechanic like in Unbroke. Gain 1 health and 1 energy, maybe for price of encountering next two dungeon cards (rather than 1). E.g.

I know that Jason is done with the game, but one last expansion that adds dungeon cards would be really great with a few new events. Just add some more cards that you can shuffle into the start, then remove a certain amount to make the levels equal each time.

Hi there! Really enjoy your videos. I played a little of Iron Helm on Tabletop Simulator today and really liked it, would be even better if I could co-op it with my friends. Can you recommend something similar, small in size and mechanics, but with a co-op mode?

I've had this game in my shopping cart for a while, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. My biggest hangup is that this game feels solvable due to low card counts in decks. You will start counting cards until you get to what you feel is optimal play.
@TheDungeonDive3 жыл бұрын
You never have perfect information because you will almost always discard one dungeon card face down without ever seeing it. It’s pretty tense.
@AFatalPapercut3 жыл бұрын
As far as the dungeon "door" cards go, I read it's intentional design that they have a somewhat low amount...specifically for "getting better" at the game as time goes on and you learn and get accustomed to what comprises the deck. IIRC that might be the only deck that never receives additional stuff with the expansion booster packs. Someone brand new has absolutely zero idea what is coming up, after your 4th or 5th foray into a dungeon you have a little better understanding of what might be coming your way and can prepare slightly better. I can't remember where I read that discussion now lol, might've been on TGC itself when someone asked why that deck never gets expanded.

I agree so much with the need for more older characters (especially heroes) in media, I always feel a veteran adventurer should be 30s plus - the fixation on younger heroes has always been a problem, really.. old guys (and gals) are often resigned to villain status or semi-retired.. 30s, 40s and even mid 50s should be seen as prime adventurer years (going up to 60s plus when talking about magic-users), I'd be all for more games that embrace older heroes.
@AFatalPapercut3 жыл бұрын
I liked Perdition's Mouth for that approach to characters. The heroes in that weren't exactly the embodiment of youth lol. Moreso, on their way out haha.

You did not describe what the pile of cards with the Shadow card on it is. As well as the second little map card. What are those?
@SeekerLancer3 жыл бұрын
The pile with "Shadow" on it are skill cards you can take when you level up based on your character's specialization. One map is how deep you are in the dungeon itself, the other map is your morality tracker. You move up if you make the moral decision in on a plot card and move down when you make an immoral one.

This seems really rad too! (Coming from Tin Helm Review) One thing that I think may be missing is how the enemies scaled per level in the Tin Game, do they scale up in this one?

I love the game but wasn't a big fan of the expansions. Loot & Lore is a must buy because it's simply more content for the base game and I think the energy potions are a good balance tweak. The others take place as second and third adventures as part of a campaign, but the way they do that doesn't add a whole lot. It just feels like playing the base game over again except with all your loot. They do add more characters which is nice but some of the new trappings feel a little overpowered. Their monsters, lore cards and loot don't get mixed into the base game either. They're only used during that specific dungeon so that's a bit of a bummer. You also only remove a handful of base cards when you play them so chances are most of what you'll see in the expansion dungeons is base content anyway. Keeping your loot makes them easier than the first level dungeon too and playing through three dungeons just make the game overstay its welcome. The foil card packs are really retro and gorgeous though, they're a shame to open.
