Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name Bass cover

The final track from The Number of the Beast album, Hallowed is the first Maiden 'epic' I heard back in 1982 and I loved it from day one. (Only recently did I realise that it was based on the 1974 Beckett song 'Lifes Shadow', with (uncredited) lyrics lifted directly from it. Later in the same Beckett song you will also hear the instrumental section to The Nomad, note for note! Again uncredited.....tut tut Mr. Harris! Anyway, Hallowed is still an excellent song nonetheless, and has remained a live favourite since 1982. This completes my covers of the entire Beast album......I hope you enjoyed watching them as much as I did learning them.

Thanks buddy ;) Yeah, when I learnt this the way it is on the album, it actually sounded wrong to me after hearing the live version so many times (especially the first part when the drums kick in). I never realised the bass was so 'constant' until the 2nd or 3rd verse.

Yes it was a surprise to me too! I know Steve has some sort of connection with the Beckett guitarist and they also covered a song from the same Beckett album (Rainbows Gold was a B side for Maiden), but I was talking to the Beckett drummer a few months back and he was really annoyed and apparently knew nothing about the use of the material! Yes! Thank you so much! Odd, it cuts out for me. I listened to Life's Shadow and didn't think the songs too similar. Only one lyric about strange illusion , as well. It also appears, many of the band play and know guys from Beckett so I don't think it was so much stealing as paying homage. IMHO.

Yes, I think the intentions may have been to pay homage, but a credit should have been given in order to do so. Did you notice the 'note for note' section later used in Maiden's "The Nomad"?

6:00 was correct? or just a small mistake? I always played this incorrectly and also technically more difficult coming off the E for a lot of the instrumental fill ins.

It is correct for the studio version. He plays that little variation just on that section of the song. Thanks for watching mate :)

Cheers buddy. I always would notice bassline errors after I recorded them (early vids especially). Now I tend to wait a month or so before filming just to tidy up the little bits as I notice them. ;)
