Great reaction. You asked if they are connected in some way? They are not related as such, but they have been composing, and performing music together between thirty and forty plus years, with countless live performances around the world. You don't get to do that, and spend so much time together without forming mutual respect, and a bond with each other. 👍 🇬🇧

100% I remember watching a behind the scenes thing with Maiden during the recording of Dance of Death and Nicki wrote the song New Frontier which was his only song writing contribution in the band he went to Steve, grabbed his acoustic bass and showed him the bass line. Steve liked it and said "sounds just like me" to which Nicko replied "well what do you expect after playing with you for 20 years" 😂

Hi Ola so glad you are enjoying your Iron Maiden journey for me they are the best heavy metal band ever, they have so many amazing songs from some of the best albums ever put to vinly/CD, this song is from the album Powerslave it's one of the best albums they ever wrote in my humble opinion, I first saw them back in the 80s when I was a teenager and have been a fan ever since, you asked if they were connected some way they are not related but Dave Murrey and Adrian Smith are childhood friends as they lived a few doors apart from each other in London, in fact Dave bought his very first guitar from Adrian when he was 14 years old, As for songs to react to theres Powerslave live from Long Beach Arena 1985, Where Eagles Dare live from Ulleve Sweden 2005, Flight of Icuras live from Mexico 2019, Stranger in a Strange Land not found a good live version of this amazing song, Still Life live from Maiden England 1988, in fact any songs from Maiden England 1988 are worth reacting to.

The myth about bands are that they are 'best buds'... but that's not the case in most bands... Steve Harris (bass) formed Iron Maiden in 1975 and met Dave Murray (guitar) in 1976... Murray was an exceptional guitarist & Harris hired him permanently in 1977 because he knew that there was no one better in the local London scene. He admitted that he was surprised that Murray stuck w/ him for so long... but it was more so for the band. Murray felt at home in Iron Maiden and he and Steve Harris were always musically connected - Harris would write the songs and Murray was the best at interpreting his ideas in rehearsals and the studio. He grew up w/ Adrian Smith (guitar) who eventually formed his local band Evil Ways... then, Urchin... and Murray had briefly played in those bands before he joined Iron Maiden full time... Adrian Smith declined to join Iron Maiden on 2nd guitar initially, but accepted the offer to join in late 1980 after Urchin was not happening... he became a key composer in Iron Maiden. Bruce Dickinson was in a band called Samson and saw Iron Maiden live... he was impressed and knew he wanted to work w/ the band... That opportunity came in 1981 when he was hired to replace vocalist Paul Di'Anno... but the transition was not the smoothest - Dickinson and Steve Harris were both alpha personalities and they tended to clash onstage and in the studio. Nicko McBrain (drums) was a veteran drummer in the UK since the 70's... he was tall, loud and hard-headed... but a sensational drummer. Maiden's manager Rod Smallwood knew him for years and he toured w/ Iron Maiden's opening band in 1982 and even appeared in the music video for 'The number of the beast' (in a mask and costume)... He replaced drummer Clive Burr in 1983 and has been w/ the band since... He and Steve Harris formed the rhythm section and reliable backbone of Iron Maiden. If Harris played him an idea on bass, McBrain would come up w/ drum parts that impressed the bassist. McBrain claimed that he had been fired from multiple bands... but somehow, Maiden stuck w/ him. Finally, guitarist Janick Gers had played guitar in numerous bands in the 80's, including Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan's solo band... He was considering quitting music when Bruce Dickinson asked him in 1989 to record his solo album 'Tattooed millionaire'... In 1990, Janick Gers replaced the departing guitarist Adrian Smith in Iron Maiden... When Iron Maiden reunited w/ Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith in 1999, Gers was worried he might have to step down but Harris insisted that he stay in Iron Maiden... They decided to make Iron Maiden a 3-guitar band in 1999... Murray, Smith and Gers got along so well as a guitar team that the press nicknamed them 'The 3 Amigos'... Dickinson has admitted that he worked very well w/ Adrian Smith as a songwriting partner.

Do you love really long songs? Well, here's the great one for you - " A Change of Seasons" by Dream Theater. Guys that grew on Iron Maiden, Rush, Metallica, King Crimson and who are the emperors of progressive metal today. This was the song which introduced me to them, and by that time I couldn't even imagine that one song can be 25 minutes long (if it is not in a Led Zeppelin live show, at least))! So go ahead and try it out - you'll love every sound of it as well, I guarantee that!

You watched the wrong song video...Listen people when watching or listening to Iron Maiden songs or videos always watch & listen to the older 1980's Iron Maiden stuff when Bruce Dickinson's voice was in it's prime. I will leave you a link below to a different video version of the same song 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' from 1985 when back when Bruce's voice sounded more opera like then it was metal. I think in my opinion every other rock singer secretly wishes that they could sing like Bruce could in his prime...Just Say'in !!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/q53Jn31mephnnLc&si=ku44AwDyai5r9vNP

I always say that this version is overrated. Fans only stick with the post-2000 concerts and there is nothing that compares to the young and fresh Iron Maiden of the 80s both live and in the studio. From where I stand, I will always rank Live at the Rainbow from 80, Beast Over Hammersmith from 82, Live After Death from 85 and Maiden England from 88 above Flight 666.
