I don’t understand how you could say in the title that they’re the most successful heavy metal band of all time/full documentary and basically cover only the first 2 to 3 years of their 40+ year career. You should’ve called at the Di'Anno years. However, it was enjoyable, but pretty disappointed that you didn’t include 90% of their catalog the current & longest tenured lineup which has made Maiden what they are today.

They sold almost 200 million albums at this point. For a band without much airplay, this is a huge achievement
@rafa_v1.028 күн бұрын
*** 200 million is counting albums, singles, VHS, DVD and all compilations. Pretty sure that's not how it's counted. I think if we did that with everyone they'd have higher sales than this. ACDC and Metallica have never gotten a lot of airplay at least back before you can see bands everywhere under the sun, live, KZbin, you name it. Iron Maiden is obviously up there as one of the best but for the best that's subjective.
@MichaelHolmgaard28 күн бұрын
@@rafa_v1.0 Yeah if we only count studio albums it's around 150 million. Still a huge achievement. Maiden rarely had many hits to build their hype around. But this became an advantage later on, as they gianed more loyal fans. This is why Judas Priest fell off so much in popularity, as they were much more dependant on radio success. ACDC & Metallica did get a lot of airplay compared to most of their collegues I'd say. Metallica especially after they got into the mainstream. Not as much as the more easily consumed rock bands, but much more than bands like Iron Maiden, Dream Theater or Pantera

@@MichaelHolmgaard I think what really shows a band is great is their longevity. And by that I mean still touring and playing big venues, not some casino tour. Iron Maiden obviously has that, they are still playing the big events and headlining like they did a few weeks ago at Sacramento Aftershock in California. I beleive is the largest on the West Coast and might be the biggest Metal Festival in the US. I'm pretty sure that Aftershock had the highest attendance of all other festivals of its kind in the US. They do a great job I think the only know is mother nature even in October it's hot as hell hitting 100 degree almost every year. Metallica did 2 shows at Aftershock a few years ago and didn't play the same song twice which was awesome. I'd love to see more bands do that. So no doubt Iron Maiden is one of the top bands around. Bruce is more than capable when it comes to performing songs from the first two albums - Live After Death more than proves this. When the statement is made, that Iron Maiden are the greatest band in the world, is not because of how many albums they have sold. It is about the fact that, if it wasn't for them, 80% of the people who are associated with this type of music, would not have anything to do with it! The amount of people they have inspired is unaccountable. The second reason why they are the best band in the world is consistency. They have remained consistent for 45 years through thick and thin. No gimmicks, no experiments of any kind in order to catch a wider audience, none of that! This is who we are, this is what we do and if you like it, you're welcome to come aboard. And at the same time, managing to always come up with something fresh (ok, not so much in recent years) but without going of the rails. As far as what was said in the documentary, I do believe that "Phantom of the Opera" is the best Maiden song ever. You pay for one track and you get seven!!!! Courtesy of the great Steve Harris! Every time I hear this song is like the first time! Unbelievable! R.I.P. Paul and Clive. We'll never forget you.

RIP Paul. I've been a fan since 1980. Iron Maiden is the best metal band because they are Unpretentious. There are no Diva's in that band and that's because of Harry (Steve Harris). The other top reason is because as a fan, Iron Maiden always gave me more than my money's worth whether it was destroying the Spectrum in Philly where I'm from or their albums. The fact that they did not get much airplay is a testament to how loyal their fanbase is and it is probably the largest fanbase in the World. Their music gave us a voice. They are the only three left from the original heavy metal bands before the sub genres started. They deserve to be respected as the legends they are. But technically, you can’t say they’re the most successful metal band. I’m not saying you have to like Metallica or like every Metallica album or anything like that but if you’re just talking about success and nothing else, Metallica is the most successful mental band. They come up with a bunch of reasons to sack him but it was likely that they felt Adrian would be a better fit and he was already close mates with Dave Murray. They asked him when they signed to EMI but he was still trying to get Urchin off the ground and felt it was going somewhere, they were doing pretty well at the time but it fell apart within a year and they made the offer again Dennis did alright on the album and his tenure, pretty much knew he was going to be done by the end of the KISS tour so had fun with it.
