The Trooper was released as the second single on 20 June 1983 from the band's fourth studio album, Piece of Mind (1983). It was one of only a few songs to get much radio airplay in the US, thus peaking at No. 28 on the US Mainstream Rock charts. It also achieved success in the UK, peaking at No. 12 in the UK Singles Charts.

5:03 that part is actually played by Dave Murray, the lower harmony part is played by Adrian Smith. You can see that in the original video clip and in live shows.

Sounds absolutely awesome Geoff! Did you ever get round to doing the solo for this one?? I hate to bring you up on something, but you got your harmonies at section 2 round the wrong way :D Dave plays the higher notes, and Adrian the lower ones. Keep up the great work....love your video's!! \m/

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was always told that Dave had the 7 7 7-5 opening(first guitar you hear).

They're actually both playing the same riff and after the second repeat, Dave plays the harmony.
