The next movie in the list is "Thor", so once you watch that one the end-credits scene will make more sense. No worries, there's a lot of fun things in the MCU for people who've read the comics, but the movies don't _require_ you to have read them, that's why Iron Man provided you a backstory/origin story. You can go in blind and still enjoy it. You'll just ... encounter things like end-credits scenes that feel confusing.
@asciishallreceive38715 ай бұрын
Yeah, I went and saw one of the other movies coming up. And at the end credit scene, there was just a superhero logo. And since I wasn't a comic book person, I didn't know what it was and said out loud in a theater. "I wonder who that is?" And of course, a couple people next to me in a row down explained it to me, which is pretty cool. No spoilers, let's not mention it here, if you know, you know

I like Don Cheadle a lot more than Terrence Howard. Regardless of the reason for the recasting, personally I think that's a casting upgrade. It feels like there's better chemistry between Don Cheadle and RDJ, and that makes the relationship between Rhodey & Stark seem more natural.
@lennyvalentin64856 ай бұрын
Howard's d--kishness makes him more like the kind of person who'd be able to tolerate Tony's capers and larger than life-type personality, but Cheadle is just so much nicer and more pleasant as a person and overall simply the better actor, it was a good choice to replace. And also good that it happened so early too.

Iron Man has the most of an arc throughout the movies out of all the MCU characters, I would say. Each one he appears in (as a major character) seems to be an important step in his growth. The Avengers is where he's seen next, and his interactions with the team are great. But this one seems to be about him deepening his interpersonal bonds and understanding that it can't be all about him. I mean, unlike the first movie, he needs others' help this time--not just to get Pepper to push a button at the right time, but he needs Rhodey beside him as War Machine. But he also needs to accept the love people have for him, whether it's from his father (through the recordings) or his and Pepper's feelings for each other. I would say the Vanko backstory helps underline what would have happened if he kept making it all about himself, that he may have made an enemy out of a friend by trying to push them out of the narrative he created about himself. I will continue to suggest The Princess Bride and Imagine Me & You. The former is likely on your docket, the latter not so much.

honestly IronMan 2 is my personal favourite from the trilogy 😅 by the way, 26:06 Peter Griffin approves.... see ya next time Whims!! 🥰
@lennyvalentin64856 ай бұрын
IMO, Iron Man 2 is the best of the three. The first was honestly great, but the villain fight and the way it ends is a bit cheap and hokey - it's been said much of the movie was improvised as they went along. Not sure how true that is, but if anywhere near accurate I can see why it was a bit lacking in the plot department. By the 2nd, the characters just feel more fleshed-out, Mickey Rourke's villain who isn't your traditional one-dimensional movie villain like Obidiah Stane from the first movie is fantastic, Sam Rockwell kills it as Justin Hammer (he always kills it) and it's fun to get an introduction of Black Widow also (and sheesh, Johansson looks so damn young in this movie...) Don Cheadle is also a way better actor (and more relatable and the more human choice) for Rhodey than whatsisface, the egomaniac madcap. IM3 on the other hand is just an embarrassment on every level I feel. Really, one of the worst dregs of all of the MCU movies. However, it did give rise to the "hail the king" or whatever it's called short film which you can watch on Disney+, it's funny as hell (especially the short scene with Justin Hammer in the prison cafeteria... loooooooollll), so I gotta forgive IM3 for that reason alone. :D

You're right that Gwyneth Paltrow is an amazing actress with a lot of range, which is why she's won an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Golden Globe. The controversy isn't unique to her, she's just more visible than most. Like many celebrities she uses her fame to build her brand; but unlike most she doesn't just hype the brand, she talks about individual products and has been caught making false statements. A degree in theatre does not qualify you as a scientist and she doesn't even have that; Paltrow dropped out of a history degree to pursue acting. And now she's using pseudo-science to sell dangerous products, such as a device which delivers coffee enemas.

It's supposed to bring all sorts of benefits, physical and spiritual, but it really only brings health hazards like risk of infection and torn/cut vaginal walls. It's snake oil for the vagina. This was the first fight in a glass-domed greenhouse I've seen since the Sci-Fi classic "Silent Running". The CGI definitely allows for much wilder action. The kind you could only imagine. But the great acting by Bruce Dern really emphasizes the drama of the moment, when you feel the impact of the dilemma he's faced with. And the practical effects they used then are still impressive, when you consider all the time and meticulous detail involved with creating those miniatures. The director of that movie said he got the idea for using the glass-domes after visiting the Climatron at our botanical gardens here in St. Louis. That was the first giant geodesic dome greenhouse ever made. Also the robots in that movie were another example of how ingenious they were with practical effects back then. George Lucas was very impressed, and borrowed that idea of giving robots cute, human-like behaviors in his creation of R2-D2, and C3PO. I still think though, the coolest movie robot ever made was the female robot from the silent movie classic, "Metropolis". It amazes me that they were able to make something THAT cool looking, with the limited technology they had from nearly ONE HUNDRED years ago!

1:48 Hiya @Whimsory 👋, Old dude here with an important film factoid about Tony's dad, Howard. His presentation of the Stark Expo, and later appearance, are done with the same look, film colors, graininess and his mannerisms are intentionally done to give the feeling of seeing Walt Disney when he presented his plan for EPCOT, a City of Tomorrow, on his TV show back in the 1960's. Though not a scientist, Disney genuinely looked for ways to improve the conditions of people, besides entertainment.

Hey, Whimsory! The second Iron Man entry is a total blast that ups the ante of the first film by having Tony ride high on the celebrity of his public declaration as well as suffer privately from deadly blood poisoning caused by his arc reactor, create a new element as well as a new suit, contend with a vengeful technical genius as well as a corporate antagonist and engage in a colossal three-way armored battle for the climax! The Hammer-Vanko storyline is clearly a tribute to one of Iron Man's signature arcs -- "Armor Wars" -- wherein Tony has to shut down every operation that's appropriated stolen StarkTech including SHIELD! This is also the only film to touch on Tony's alcoholism which should have been the subject of a whole movie as it is CENTRAL to the character. The legendary "Demon in a Bottle" arc has Tony hit rock bottom and turn over his Iron Man duties to James Rhodes which would have been some great material for both Robert Downey, Jr. and Don Cheadle as the new 'Rhodey' replacing Terrence Howard. The film boasts an incredible cast with RDJ portraying Tony Stark in full manic mode as a man keenly aware of his imminent mortality yet in simultaneous aggressive denial. He is supported by a nakedly envious Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, a menacingly bemused Mickey Rourke as Ivan Vanko aka Whiplash, a lusciously lethal Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow and an earnest, exasperated Don Cheadle as Lt. Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes aka War Machine. Garry Shandling even shows up in a small role he reprises elsewhere in the MCU as Senator Stern. The "His Girl Friday"-like romantic banter between Tony and Gwyneth Paltrow's Virginia 'Pepper' Potts remains a comic highlight with Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson serving as a great straight man. I also really like John Slattery's contribution as elder Howard Stark who looms so large in Tony's life. Slattery's portrayal in Stark's promotional recordings is a hybrid of a young Howard Hughes and a middle-aged Walt Disney. Of course, director Jon Favreau as Harold 'Happy' Hogan and Paul Bettany as JARVIS return. Perpetually p***ed-off Sam Jackson as Col. Nick Fury swings by to drop some dark Stark legacy in Tony's lap as well as drop a hint of Asgardian doings in the Southwest. Leslie Bibb returns as journalist Christine Everhart as does Tim Guinee as USAF Major Allen. Kate Mara has a bit part as a process server and Elon Musk appears as himself! TRIVIA: 1. Natasha's belt buckle carries her sigil which is the red angular hourglass shape that is found on the actual backs of black widow spiders. 2. The events of "Iron Man 2", "The Incredible Hulk" and "Thor" all occur during one week in MCU-time called Fury's Big Week! EASTER EGGS: 1. The half-finished, star-spangled convex object Tony uses to balance his makeshift particle accelerator is a prototype of Captain America's shield! 2. While Tony reads his psych evaluation by Natasha, one of the holo-screens shows a field reporter covering the aftermath of Hulk's Culver University rampage indicating that Hulk's adventure is still in progress while Tony has just completed his which places "Iron Man 2" earlier in the chronology than "Incredible Hulk". 3. Tony's status as a SHIELD consultant sets up the One-Shot "The Consultant" which accompanies "Incredible Hulk" recontextualizing its barroom end-credit scene with Ross. 4. The kid in the Iron Man helmet Tony saves from the drone at the Expo is a pre-Spider-Man Peter Parker! CAMEO: 1. Stan Lee shows up as Larry King complete with suspenders as Tony descends the escalator from the opening Stark Expo! END-CREDIT SCENE: 1. The end-credit scene is actually an excerpt from "Thor" which shows Coulson arriving in New Mexico at the crater made by the impact of Thor's fallen hammer, Mjolnir. The next chronological stop in the MCU is a featurette called a One-Shot that occurs at the end of "Iron Man 2" prior to the end-credit scene which is actually a clip from "Thor". "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer" serves as a little prelude to "Thor" as Coulson travels to New Mexico and stumbles onto some unexpected action.
