Howard Stark also was a alcoholic, he passed that down with his intellect to his son. Its so sad to see him say that his greatest creation is him and Tony never feeling he getting the attention he needed as a child.

He knew one day he would die and for the wrong he did to Tony he made it right. He told him what his mind couldnt say. That he loved him and his genius is within him to continue. His greatest creation is his son.

Nothing weird here. Its the first portrayal of howard stark in these movies. The ones made later should've tried to be consistent with this one.

Tony: "He never told me loved me, he never said he liked me". Me: I feel your pain Tony, I feel your pain. My dad was never my biggest fan either. He was always so mean to me and never said that he believed in me. I'm pretty sure me leaving was the best thing that ever happened to him.

I despise Howard. He says that then despite he would die much later in life and STILL not give his son attention. He reminds me of my own family minus the alcohol and money.

I get that they had to have this scene for Tony's character development and to further the plot, but god I hate it. This scene just goes against everything that is Howard Stark as a father. In the comics, if not for Maria, he was almost physically abusive to Tony, and already verbally abusive. He was not a nice dad. So I really just hate this scene. It tried to make up for all the shitty things Howard's done with a few sappy words. It was trying to be a fix-it, and I hate it. And besides, Tony's fucking adopted. His real dad was a HYDRA double agent.

Rebecca Laird this version was different because I mean having an abusive father isn’t great with every hero but I think this version of Howard is better cause it tricked us into thinking he was a bad father

To each their own. I just feel like Howard's abuse is a pivotal part of Tony's character. I understand why they had to tone it down a bit for the movies, as Howard Stark is a main character throughout the MCU, both in the movies and in the tv shows, like Agent Carter and they couldn't take someone who the viewers were supposed to see as a hero and demonize him into his true comic book form. I'm usually not nitpicky about comic-to-movie adaptations, they have to change things and I get that, but this just threw a wrench in everything comic fans know about Howard, and really, everything we've been told about thus far. A father who didn't even tell his son he loved him wouldn't have done that. And it just sours the breakthrough. Tony finding the 'cure' for this problem would've been more impactful if he had come up with it on this one, not taking half-finished work of Howard. Overall, I just wish this scene hadn't been there, it tried to shoehorn in a father-son bonding theme into a movie that it just wasn't relevant for.

He's not adopted. You read the Earth 6-1-6 comic which is not from Stan Lee. In his original Story, Tony's name is Anthony Edward Junior and is named after Howard Anthony Stark.
