Even before Endgame I always loved how this movie tells us that whenever Tony's deep in thought he snaps his fingers, I always loved this detail about this scene and I would rewatch it a lot when I was younger- it was my favorite scene because of it and that's how I decided I'd learn how to snap, so I could look/sound cool like him, heh. In Favreau's films Tony is always tapping his fingers or snapping them (especially when thinking) and I really wish that detail had carried over to the new movies. The idea of discovering a new element like this is hard to follow in the suspension of disbelief. The difference between every element is just the atomic number. It's like discovering higher numbers. Obviously there's the idea of finally having a method to synthesize it, or just having a good use of it, but it'd be easier to follow to say he found a different structure of lithium or zinc or something, akin to the concept of deuterium being essentially a heavier version of hydrogen. Current "undiscovered" elements are just so dense and unwieldy that they don't form or don't hold structure long enough to be studied, even when made artifically. Correct me where I'm wrong, chemists :)
@veratexanS7 жыл бұрын
youmakeitwhatitis that's exactly what I was thinking. It'd be better if his dad had developed a synthesis for an element rather than "discovering" a new element
@DrCureAging7 жыл бұрын
Perhaps his had just showed him the path to the "island of nuclear stability". That's the main issue with making new elements. We get a lot of highly unstable elements however theoretically once ou get past all these unstable versions, we will eventually reach a stable atom
@jonnyb707 жыл бұрын
it's not so much whether you can discover a higher number, it's like you said, the method of synthesizing it. There's a critter called Californium-232 that's apparently the most expensive element in existence because it decays so rapidly. They can MAKE it but it ain't cheap. Same thing here, I suspect. You have to have a reason for the thing to exist in the first place to need to manufacture it.
@ricksaburai7 жыл бұрын
Obviously it doesn't work as simply put as in the movie, but following the suspension of disbelief, one could assume he synthesized a new, heavy element structured in a stable matrix. For instance, the heaviest known element is Ununoctium, with an atomic mass of 294. In theory, heavier elements than that could be made with significant cost, energy and would decay almost instantly. Let's say Stark found a way to organize the nuclear matter in a very stable state, with an efficient method, and thus "created" a new element with a mass of 300. That in itself implies that, not only he was able to synthesize the heaviest element, he also had to come up with a stable isotope (like you mentioned deuterium) to be even able to use it. It's quite the feat.

This scene lost me. His dad built a blueprint for a, I can't even remember what. But it was Also secretly a design for a new element that Tony just so happens to need in order to survive. Daddy ex machina.
@caeruleusaurum15506 жыл бұрын
The element was Vibranium which is rare/unknown outside higher ups in Shield and Wakanda.
@caeruleusaurum15506 жыл бұрын
That doesn't stop it from being a synthetic version of Vibranium. Tony's dad most likely figured out the molecular structure of Vibranium but had no way to synthesis it hence he gave it to Tony to make. Vibranium in its natural form is only found in Wakanda but what Tony has is a synthetic version of it. What other element could he have "re-discovered" ?
@dawsonwoolford96606 жыл бұрын
Caeruleus Aurum The only synthetic version of vibranium is adamantium, which still isn’t close.

It's the blue prints for the pavilion where they have the Stark Expo. Howard's intention was that it would be used for unlimited power for mankind - not that he had any knowledge it would save Tony's life.
@marianoyuba37365 жыл бұрын
It's replicated tesseract energy. Howard got ahold of both the tesseract and Hydra's weapons, which were powered by it, and thus was able to figure out and analyze its outlandish molecular structure...just not able to synthesize it. The arc reactor is a somewhat primitive version of a replicated tesseract (notice that Hydra used oversized arc-like reactors to store the energy for their weapons), but being based on palladium, it had the side effect of being extremely toxic when in contact with Tony's bloodstream. While the whole thing of the schematics is kind of farfetched, the concept of the element isn't all that crazy, and fits the rest of the established marvel lore perfectly. (revisiting the older movies, it's amazing just how well many concepts that would be properly introduced later were already connected and established)
@DJROCKSTAZ5 жыл бұрын
From rediscovering a new element, to figuring out a time-traveling heist... Stark, my man, I'm gonna miss you. I mean, it was gonna happen sooner or later-I never pretended it wasn't. This was the man who launched the MCU as we know it. He's getting old, and let's face it-NOBODY else could be Tony Stark. That armor was MADE for him.
@speed150mph2 жыл бұрын
Robert Downey Jr does such a good job in this role. Reminds me of me in high school. Didn’t know what half the stuff I was talking about meant but sure as hell made it sound like I did. Listening to him talk in character, you almost forget that he isn’t a genius who knows what all this means.

While I like the addition of testing it on the Mark 6 framework, I can see why they used the existing scene - Jarvis' congratulating him on creating a new element was a nice addition, and Tony's commentary after the new element model was made felt more natural in the existing one.

I like this version more, since in the original he doesn't color code first to get a better view, he just starts deleting things randomly. The fact that he specifies everything with a concrete structure says a lot more about the way he's looking at things.

I kind of hope there is a moment like this between Parker and Stark in the future. Like, I think Marvel will end up using "Exodus" as a way to introduce the X-Men, and it would be really cool if Peter was searching Stark files and come across Tony discovering or documenting the studies in relation to Exodus, but never went public about it. And in a way, he teaches Peter about the X-Men and how they came to be. Then Peter make some comment like "It's been over 10 years now...still the smartest man in the room." .....or something like that.

@raymondchavez3298 жыл бұрын
Andrew Whitcomb basically it's Howard's imitation of an unlimited power source.. being that the tesseract is the space stone..it's power and potential was and still quite possibly is impossible to replicate..if you notice during avengers when tony gets the avengers brief..he pauses and looks at the tesseract.. because it's very similar radiance..this combined with the audio comparison...if you listen closely..hydras weapons in captain America.. powered by the tesseract..have the same sound as iron man pulse canon and chest blast... coincidence maybe..
