I had a '72 VW Bus when I was 19. I was working retail and had very little money at the time. A coworker of mine was a sorta weird old guy that did not drive, what he drove was this bus. He had the engine rebuild a few years prior, but it stopped running shortly after that and it just sat in his parking spot. He gave the bus to me for free. I did a compression test and found one of the cylinders had low compression, so I assumed the company that built the engine had ripped off my coworker. Around that time, my dad cracked the crankcase on his buggy so I pulled the engine and gave it to my dad for parts. After pulling the bus engine apart, we found that everything in it was new, included new Brazilian cases. The low compression was from a bad cam. So I could have had a good rust free running bus just by replacing the cam. Anyway, the bus sat in my parent's drivway without an engine for a year, then the HOA sent a notice that they were going to tow it. I was stupid and sold the bus in a rush for a couple hundred dollars. Selling that bus is one of my biggest regrets. It was only a few months after I sold the bus that I had gotten a much better job and cod afford to do whatever I wanted to the bus. God, I wish I still had my bus.

I like the new color combos, maybe Fluffy's love of Comics and Wrestling influence the bright colors,; aqua and orange or pale yellow and light blue, look good together too. Glad he mentions that mileage on VW does not matter, cuz they get rebuilt so often. They keep going and going not like a regular modern car. Hope you stored away those old original engines. Have to sell my VW bug, hope to find appreciative new owner, had it 40 years my only car I had. Wish me luck 😉

3,000 lbs with 180 hp? You know that's fast... My original mustang fox body 5.0 weighs over 3,000 lbs and it's only got 225 hp. This VW van is way less than my car and and the power it's got it's just enough.
