I think it's great that you called this "standard" or "easy" grimdark in the title & thumbnail. There's some people who want to gatekeep what the style is but what we really need is a spectrum of the grimdark styles. We're all one big grimy, battle-worn family here.

Iron Within. I love the grim darkness and all the weathering except of the rusting. As Iron Warriors have the dour duty to always make their equipment clean and rust is the enemy. Wonderful guide! Especially the green stuff cast iron warriors. Let's Go!

Usually yes, as they even as unsupported Grand Companies still construct and maintain corrupt manufactoria. However, not every warband of the Iron Warriors is located on Medrengard as splinter warbands exist, some are in exile or nearly extinct as of the Dispute of Iron in M34, and can't properly maintain their gear or build facilities to manufacture replacements/rearmaments.

For the cast metal look I can also suggest „Mr. surfacer“, that’s the scale modelers choice for rough looking metals like WW2 Soviet tanks etc.

The Liquid Green Stuff technique can also be done with Tamiya Putty and Tamiya Extra Thin followed by a fine grit sand paper. It might be easier to get than a Liquid Green Stuff since its available from Amazon.

I genuinely love the Iron Warriors and their themaric playstyle of lots of vehicles and next to no demons and the disgust of any mutations, which they then cut off and replace with bionic parts. The problem is that GW have lumped them together in the generic Chaos Space Marines codex and hasnt given them any nice models. I don't feel that the aesthetic of IWs fits with the standard Chaos Space Marine models. The only way is to kit bash them, which can be expensive as well as disastrous if your conversion goes wrong

The main thing is making sure the acrylic layer you apply the enamel over has had sufficient time to cure. Secondly it’s just about lightness of touch and technique, I favour gentle tapping motions no back and forth or pushing / pulling. Hopefully you’ll get the hang of it!

The only thing I would have done is trimmed the knee pads so it reads less as primaris. The top is a solid change overall, but those Emperor damned kneepads make it too obvious it's Primaris. Other than that, really good stuff
