I did Perterabo in exactly the same way 4 years ago now. In fact I do any gritty, dark wartorn armour in this style as it fits perfectly for me the era of Horus Heresy. And also it is so easy! The hardest bit is always those pesky hazard stripes but after over 2 decades I have become fairly handy lol I contrast this gritty style with very colourful wires instead of drab ones. Nice vid sir 👌👏

Finally plucked up the courage to actually paint. Regarding the step of ratling grime + contrast. You went to explain alternatives and then say that 'this step isn't necessary'. Were you referring to the ratling.. being unneccesary or the alternatives ie rustifying as well being unnecessary. I went to look for both paints, and thought I might not have contrast medium... I have two contrast medium but no ratling grime lol so wondering if it's possible to skip. I do however have darkoath flesh which you suggest as an alternative, what sort of mix do you suggest there?
@TheFeralPainter11 ай бұрын
Darkath flesh works absolutely amazing!! If not more rusty!! I mean the rattleing grime is optional, depending if u wish for a more darker look or prefer the cleaner look. Althou using different coulor contrast can obtain a different look. This is something i would probably implore if painting an army, to give different looks/verity between units. Making some units look more aged or weathered differnt. Hope that helps. And again of you wish for a more (newer)/ less aged unit, then skip that step. You could even use a wash at this stage such as: nuln oil, agrax, or even targor rage shade. Hope all that helps thanks Nate
@leestride228511 ай бұрын
Do you thin the darkoath flesh 1:1 as you did with the ratling grime?@@TheFeralPainter
@TheFeralPainter11 ай бұрын
Yes or if u want it dark then less water
@leestride228511 ай бұрын
A big thank you for this video. I've finally beaten the deadlock of not painting an army. Batch painting 100+ marines has been unfun to say the least, but they've turned out great even with my poor painting ability. I used the darkoath thinned down - I was very surprised by how rusty looking they've come and how effective it was (it was a slightly off 1:1 mix 18ml darkoath:24 contrast medium because that was the pots I had). They obviously deviate from your method a fair bit in the rustiness, but I am happy with them. Getting used to how much I wanted to lather it on also means there's a fair bit of variation in their looks. I'm also consider not doing the enamel wash stage although again, thanks to your advice, I have got everything ready and for some reason tested it on Perturabo (which was brave, especially after not shaking the wash before use haha). But yeah thanks again, infantry done (no hazard stripes for now though) and on to filling out a list/ choosing vehicles dreadnoughts. Currently I have: 60 marines (with shrapnel bolters) 20 iron havocs with autocannon 10 iron havocs with lascannon 20 assault destroyers 5 converted tyrant siege terminators 10 converted dominator terminators God I love warhammer. @@TheFeralPainter

Wonderful tutorial, but enamel washing scares me a little, so after you've put the wash on what do you use to remove it (both tool and solution), and do you do it instantly after or do you let the enamel wash fully dry first?

@@TheFeralPainter Nah, it's fine. I would have another question, though: I'm pretty new to miniature painting and I haven't drybrushed much.
