Iron1200 vibration

2009 Sportster Iron883, w/ Screamin' Eagle 1200 Conversion. After the 1200 Conversion (Just a couple weeks ago) I get a terrible vibration. I know the 04-later rubber mounted Sporty do vibrate at idle and smooth out around 1500 rpms, that's not the case, this vibrates through acceleration. Its becoming unrideable. My hands/Arms go numb after 10-15 minutes of riding.
Any suggestions?????

Hey Joe. I had a 2015 Iron for about 2 years. If the bike is running well, but, the vibration is excessive, check the rubber mounts. Prop the bike up on the frame, lift the motor up, and remove the rear pivot shaft bolt. Remove one of the mounts and inspect. If there is a lot of sag/shear to the profile of the mount, then they need to be replaced. If not, reinstall the shaft using loctite 243 blue generously, and torque accordingly. Do the same for the front mount. Then check to see if all 3 of the stabilization links are tight. Use loctite on those too. This will make your bike vibrate more like it should. When I replaced my mount, I got slightly harder urethane mounts made by drag specialties. A little more shake, but, they last longer and are cheaper. Good luck!

I had a 2012 Sportster Custom............it vibrated like you said. Made my right hand numb. I rode a 2014 Sportster Custom and it did not have this problem. I traded the 2012 in. Here is the issue. The 2012 had a set of Vance and Hines pipes on it. But.......they did not do a Stage 1 tune on it. The 2014 has a set of Pythons on it, but......they did a full Stage 1 tune on it. So much better. I would suggest that you need to look into the tune on your bike. Or maybe something simple like the engine mounts. Hopefully you have this sorted out by now.

2020 Iron 1200 and have a bone-shaking vibration between 2750-3000 rpm’s. After that, smooth. Driving me mad.

@@SuperDyrdekfan I’m going to have it checked out at the 1000 service. I did replace the plugs and wires with the screamin’ eagles and while the vibration is still there, the motor seems more free-revving and the vibration less intense.

It's the front mount, no doubt about it. That mount broke on my 2006 1200.

as an owner of a harley 48 the vibration does not look like anything out of the ordinary. Mine shakes about that much at idol but when you get moving it should smooth out. If it is vibrating terrible while moving you may want to check that the tires are balanced properly. If they are not balanced your bike will vibrate and shake like crazy to where it can be un-ridable

I have a 2019 Sportster 1200 Custom, same vibration, I think all 1200 twin cam engines vibrates...you are not alone...I cannot drive more than 10 miles bare hands, it would become numb...try the "Mecnanix" gloves I bought in Auto Zone they seem to take away some of the vibrations so that you can drive a bit longer. all the best....

my 09 1200 started shaking after I put VH straight shots mufflers and a dyno tune. I tryed changed the front mounts, put back the stock mufflers that helped a little. New plugs, checked for vacuum leak- ok. Harley dealer said no problem found. bike runs Strong but at idle it shakes a lot causing my front wheel to bounce all over the place. handle bar vibration at different rpm ranges. feels like something is way out of balance. I've been working on fixing this issue for about 18 months, getting ready to give up and sell it and just get out of the hobby. 😖☹️

puka59 I never figured it out. it just made it unbearable to ride. my final ride on it was a few weeks before I traded it, I ride up to erie Pa for Easter dinner with family. I passed a car and noticed my feet were vibrating off the pegs, did it again to confirm and sure enough same result. I tradrd it in a couple weeks later

I have not figured out/fixed the issue. It still vibrates terribly. I actually don't ride it much bc of this. I have put maybe 1,000 miles on the bike since I did the 1200 conversion last august (2014).

100% motor mounts shot! Need to replace it before it loosen all your bolts and nuts, plus it gonna put stress fracture on your frame. $400 fix at the shop.

That’s just what sportsters do bro . I have a 2021 1200 I just did a stage 1 to and it vibrates worse then that.

my 2007 883 sporty has vibrated like hell since the day I bought it new from the dealer. Max speed is 72 mph. I think I bought a lemon.

I definitely think you bought a lemon...lol. I have gotten my Sporty 883 (b4 the 1200 kit) up to 107 mph and I weigh about 315 lbs.

I'm assuming you didn't pull the cams..so I will ask ..Did you put the push rods in the correct place..the intake and exhaust are different lengths.

You need third party tuning. Harley does not support open pipes. Wide band O2 sensors needed.

check your motor mounts especially the top mounts, many come loose, even one thread loose will cause massive vibration

Matt, If you could (just as an experiment) take your bike for a ride (before doing the conversion), and get on it, see if you feel any vibrations. Mine was really noticeable if I was cruising at say 40-50mph and then I get on it to pass someone. I could literally feel it through my whole body (arms, feet, ass) - my feet would actually slide off the footpegs from the vibrations....

2:48 That rear mount is fucked ! That spindle should not be moving around like that . No wonder the belt is jumping around . Needs new Rubbers and the Swing Arm Bearings need looking at.

Dude I love my sportster. Just know that it has two main problems. Rubber mount and the rear mount are mounted into the swing arm.they look sexy but they aren't the best . Fuck vibration .mine was so bad the motor would move while riding.its not a Honda shadow bro it's a tractor with two wheels . I still have her but note that oil and rubber don't go well together so always keep that area clean

I hope you are still monitoring this post. Did you ever resolve your vibration issue? I have a similar issue with a very definitive alteration point. I have a 2007 883 Sportster that ran smooth as butter! OK I know everyone says that Sportster's vibrate and it did, but I understood or accepted those vibrations. However, I went on a 10 hour ride in extreme 90 temperatures on an 80 mile an hour freeway. I kept up and the bike ran fine, except I apparently blew a rocker gasket in the process. Took me a while to realize why I was getting oil blow by on my battery cover. OK, so I take it in for a rocker cover gasket replacement and then go on a 2 hour ride and the bike is vibrating so much that when I stop for gas the positive battery lead has vibrated lose and the bike won't start. Well that was an easy fix but the bike has such severe vibration now at high RPM I am dumbfounded. How can a rocker cover gasket replacement would cause this. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated.

sorry never noticed this comment. funny the you say you get a vibration at higher rpms. I have recently traded the bike in on a 2016 Street glide special, which I am very sad about, I loved my sporty very much....lol this past Easter (few weeks ago), I was riding up to Erie PA (about 1-1/2 hours away) to meet for Easter dinner sigh the fam..... This was kind of the turning point, I noticed this vibration happens between 3,000-4,500 rpms and it is so bad that when passing a car my feet actually start sliding off the edge of the footpegs from the vibrations, my hands tingle after 5-10 minutes.. it has just become unbearable. I do miss it though.

I've had (2) 1200 sportsters and both would shake crazy. I found that the lower 1" bolt (see 2:47 in the video) actually was slightly loose causing more vibration. A sportster seems to be everything you want in a bike, that you really don't want in a bike. They are noisy....they shake terribly....they are air-cooled and get super hot; however, with all of those negatives, I still loved it, but I ended up trading mine for a Vrod. It's everything opposite of the sportster.

I year ya I miss mine, it was a fun ride. I love the street glide as fat as comfort goes. But it doesn't have that "get on and go" feeling

I have a 1200 Sportster with an s&s 1250, feuling cams, lifters,valve springs, hammer performance push rods, Buell oil pump gear, tbr 2-1, v&h fp3 tuner, s&s intake and a ton more and it has NEVER vibrated even remotely close to this!
