iirc in lore nids tend to avoid tau as their use of long range means they have to use more biomass in order to replenish themselves. the tau have also a special fleet of ships made to hunt said tyranids

This seems to follow the Tau tactic of Kauyon, where the Tau have a very good ambush position and killzone, and the Tyranids just fall for it every time.

Unless The Greater Good Means "Get In Mah Belly" I Don't Think The Tyranids Are All That Willing To Consider Alternative Options To Conquest And Expansion. However If The Tyranids Found Out Just How Bio-Mass Efficient Tau Propaganda Is (Waifus) They Might Just Be The Most Sinisterly Effective Empire Builders In The Universe Since They Could Theoretically Design A Perfect Partner For Each of The Sapient Races So That Only Tyranid Based Lifeforms Could Reproduce. Honestly I like all the factions. I like some more than others but I've never been able to pick a definite favorite but if I had to pick it would be the orks because of how downright ridiculous they are or some of the different space marines like the salamanders.

I don't know. Try to install Unification Unlimited 2.5 addon. Maybe it will help you. I didn't have Lion El'Jonson, but after this addon I can summon him playing for Dark Angels.
