Hello Gordon - really enjoy your videos as I learn the most and you get to the point quickly. At the very end of this video you describe a pasture scenario as I have with long grass and deep targets. You said something about raising the iron bias (I have quite polluted soil by an old manor and pasture field on a hill) - what would you reccomend I raise it to? Thank you!
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog 11 ай бұрын
Raise as in a lower number (upper iron bias, target trace screen), which will increase dug good targets and iron. High numbers = less iron falsing, low numbers = more iron and good targets masked by iron. Hope that makes sense.

Been using the Manticore for six months now and still learning. Appreciate your tutorials and advice. Have been working with a similar set up however, based in High Conductivity (which does run the batteries down). Will try your setup this week and offer feedback. One point, regards RICH profile. It appears to quieten the responses down quite considerably and good targets don't sound off so loud. Is there anything I can adjust to improve this?
@AnthonyGill-n8k

Spent four hours on exhausted medieaval field today. Its very irony so used 5 stabiliser. Sensitivity upto 27 ( never been that high) reactivity 6 and the noise cancel multi press. I have to say i am very impressed and this set up will be my preffered one. But as you state a few tweaks will be necessary dependng upon site. So i found a hammered farthing, cut quarter, small medieaval pendant and several other bits and pieces. Good signals stood out. Thanks for offering a brilliant set up for the Manticore😂
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog Жыл бұрын
Rich gives you so much more target info like shape and depth. I must admit I don’t use the ML105s, and wire them to the machine. Hopefully there will be a module released soon, that will improve choice. If Rich doesn’t work for you, choose a profile that does, it’s a very versatile detector.

The Equinox is and will always be a great machine. I’ve made the switch to the Manticore and would find it hard to go back. There is so much more you can do to the Manticore to make it sound and perform better. The only problem I’m seeing is when users are pushing the settings too far, this is hard to do on the Equinox. If you’re happy with the Nox, getting great results and are confident in its abilities, stick with it. If you are searching long term pasture, then the Manticore is going to get extra depth and performance… you probably won’t see as much difference when detecting ploughed soils.

Steel is a carbon alloy of iron yes so this may sound stupid but so what type of Vdi would we be looking at steel over iron if we all hate getting that iron so much, although it is a major factor in detecting an old sites , what I am trying to say if we all blanked the iron out then how did others find swords and such before us or were they just lucky and thought it was a bit of scrap.

brilliant - what sensitivity do you generally run at? Say for example on an iron infested roman site? I've tried to experiment with both lower (circa 18) and also nearly 30 and tend to find the higher makes the faint signals easier to pick out....but i'm still unsure! Brill vid
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog Жыл бұрын
I try to run the Manticore as quiet as possible. Using the tools available you should be able to quieten all non metal noise. I usually start at sensitivity 25, then noise cancel, hold the detector off the ground and adjust the Manticore’s sensitivity so there’s no emi chatter.. it should become totally stable. This is my maximum possible sensitivity for the site I’m searching, on the day. I then use recovery rate, stabiliser and possibly ground balance to control non metal falsing from hot-rocks, ceramics and mineralisation. Typically I’m able to run sensitivity at around 30 using this technique.

Hi Gordon, I have been using one for a while now and doing really well, it's way better than the Nox 800 I had before, a question I always use it in all metal with the horse shoe on...now does adjusting down the ferrous limits like you have here have any effect on me detecting with the horse shoe on? Cheers Steve
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog Жыл бұрын
When you set the ferrous volume full, I’m guessing you’re hearing iron falsing better on targets like sheared nuts and horseshoes, targets that false positive on most detectors. I tend to turn down the ferrous volume to 4, and to 3 or 2 if I’m mainly experiencing small nails only. This still allows me to hear falsing from large iron. It’s down to you though and how you like the sound and volume of the junk targets, but I would try dropping the ferrous volume if you’re not getting large iron falsing, especially when you’re hearing multi iron targets on every swing. It can make the good targets stand out more. I’ve found the secret of getting the best performance out of the Manticore, is to keep all unwanted noise to a minimum, you lose finds and depth in noise. The sensitivity, recovery rate, ferrous limits, ferrous tones (volume and stabiliser) and ground balance are the tools you have to quieten the audio. After silencing all the 'detector at rest noise' I want to hear just the ferrous and non-ferrous targets… but I don’t want the non-ferrous stuff shouting at me!
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog Жыл бұрын
Sorry just reread you question, you weren’t asking about ferrous volume. Ferrous limits setting will change the audio response when searching in all metal. It will change what is heard as ferrous.

I only work ancient sites full of iron, probably like you! Cheers Steve

Hi Gordon,great video fella,I’ve put your settings in and air tested a hammered coin I found the signal a lot louder using simple rather than rich,but you seem to hear the signals better in rich,am I missing something? Cheers again 😊
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog Жыл бұрын
@@grahamduff9890 it’s down to personal choice and the headphones you are using. I’m using my own headphones (Gog Phones) wired to the detector, or… One thing to remember is in Normal Audio Theme, Simple is the audio profile used in the Vanquish series. This is very flat with few nuances. Normal - Medium is similar to the Nox series, more variation within tones. Normal - Rich is taking these nuances even further, giving a user the ability of noticing subtle differences in target responses. These different profiles are also in Enhanced and Detph Audio themes, and although they change the audio in the same way, they cannot be compared to previous models like you can set in Normal. Choose what works for you, there’s no magic setting!

@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog Жыл бұрын
Not really. If you were to line 4/5 tones after the one that covers coke, you would just add a bit of strain on the processor. If however, you want to add different tone to TID range then the extra processor pressure would be a necessity.

What's the difference between simple and rich?
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog 6 ай бұрын
Think of it like this; Simple is the audio the Vanquish uses, Normal the Equinox uses and Rich which is new for the Manticore. Each has different audio depth and information, Simple is a flat sound with little info other than beep beep. Normal audio gives good strong audio responses that gives users the ability to hear falsing, mixed tones from multiple targets and depth differences (fainter responses at depth). Rich takes all this even further with more info, but does quieten done the audio overall, not for everyone.

Can the Manticore tones be set like the Etrac/ctx ie high tone for iron and low tone for hammered coins and so on ?
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog Жыл бұрын
You can set a low tone for hammered high tone for high conductors (as I did here)… and put any tone you want for the ferrous tone 'ferrous pitch'. I set the pitch at 1 (factory setting) which is lower than the lowest tone on non-ferrous low-conductors (10). But you could apply a high pitch on ferrous tones if you wanted to… not sure it be of any benefit though.

Ground balance - do you ever use auto tracking?
@IronheartedGog
@IronheartedGog Жыл бұрын
Not on my land, I’m usually detecting for deep targets on pasture/farm land, and this is often not very mineralised. Ground tracking can remove the target responses of deep targets that are at the edge of detection. Tracking is great in high mineralisation, in countries where this is a real problem (eg Australia). In the U.K. we are fortunate this isn’t the case.

The new ferrous limits compare targets to single frequency, much like iron bias F2 does on the Equinox 800… but still try it, it could make a tricky iron target less tricky.
