I come back to this video every year. I’ve been graced to do Ironman and many other physical challenges in my life. This video reminds me why. It bonds all of us - facing whatever challenges are in our lives - sometimes chosen, sometimes chosen for us.

I'm doing my first Sprint Tri, this June, 2012. I'm 41 years old, mother of 3, and 80lbs overweight, still battling the effects of Lyme's disease. I love watching these clips of the ironman because it's extremely motivational. Especially seeing the elderly finishing the race. Thank you for posting this and for being an inspiration. :) More blessings to you, always.

I'm going through a bit of a rough patch in life at the minute Scott, things aren't going my way no matter how hard I fight, no matter what I do there never seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Watching this video of you though, you give me hope. You help me keep on fighting, and I tell you now, I will never stop fighting. You aren't an ironman Scott, you are an ironHERO. I salute you sir.

But now in 2012 ,i'm really standing for a challenge ,my knees are hurting again . My knees allways need few days recovery , have to take painkillers etc. I don't want to give up , it's not in my nature..and i still have 1 dream left...participating in an ironman-race. Since my olympic-dream is scattered etc I'm really low in selfconfidence, especially with all this pain.Watching this though , really inspires me to not give in and go for it with or without the pains! Tnx !

@52comeback I'm a 60 year old grandma of 5 and I'm about to do my 3rd. Iron Distance Triathlon. My first was in 2006, at the age of 55, in Madison, WI. To finish is all I wanted but, I finished 3rd. in my age group and that made this day even more special. Iron Man is for all of us who dare to try, who aspire to brake preconceved ideas of age and limitations. This race is not only for the Elite but for the most ordinary people who dare to do something trully extraordinary.

I've watched this video so many times, I narrate the video as it plays and I know scene by scene. You have been there with every single training ride, Scott. I play this video as I warm up and will continue to play it til July. Thank you. Like you, I am also searching for something....finish line is the answer.

I can not put the words any better....Life's journey is full of peaks and Valley's and I personaly am going through the same at this moment and I find myself searching for an answer...My only solution in life at the moment is to burn it on the bike and riding 30 through 40 miles daily and other days jogging 10 to 15 miles....I have made my life's goal part of My bucket list is to compete on the IronMan!!!!! What comes after I have no idea.

Its out there, you need only stand up and claim it. It takes time and it takes dedication and even some soul searching (more than you might expect) but if you want it you can do it.

I also am in a difficult stage in life.. I used to ride mountainbike-races etc and was pretty good at it..ah well let's say in the sub-top in my country (Belgium) In 2009 i had a green light from my trainer to set it all on the olympics ...i really was on roll ...and then it happened in 2010 , I had a major motorcycle accident, destroying both my kneecaps .Doctors said i couldn't do any sports ever again. I tried to prove them wrong and did..until last year i drove regionals again.

This is great motivation to do Iron Man,the training is hard to do,the only thing standing in my way is the price to do it in South Africa its expensive to do and its a long way to go for me down to Port Elizibeth, from here in Johannesberg.

@52comeback Excellent response. I don't understand people's need to detract from other's accomplishments. Is it jealousy? Is it they know they are incapable of something so they must take away from that person? Blaxboard, did you ever consider that in a 140.6 mile race, things might go wrong? Forgetting for a second your ignorance of the lottery system, you have the audacity to say that someone who finished an Ironman is not that strong? What have you done? This was very inspiring!

@okolnost That's one of the aspects I really like about Triathlon and Ironman. Although it's a very individualistic and "egoistic" sport, these actions show things that current society lacks.

Hello again: Thank you, G00n3r4Life for your kind words and well wishes. There are no limits, only the ones you set for yourself. I wont say preparing for an IronMan Triathlon is easy as pie but I will say that, with dedication and passion, anyone can do it. If you decide to take this challenge, make sure the reasons behind your decision are pure and true. Don't do it to impress anyone, do it for you. In the end, it will be YOU AGAINST YOURSELF on that 140.6 mile Journey. Thanks again. Maria

@Blaxboard There is a lottery for anyone that has finished an Ironman. Also Ironman picks several athletes to showcase each year. Just be happy for the guy and don't try and spit on his achievements.

@Flash786 First thing u should do is find a Triathlon club in your area/country and start talking to triathletes....find out about training/ boot camps etc.....also learn to swim if u can't as many ppl who want to do triathlon aren't strong swimmers.....
