The, Hawaii Ironman 2011 World Championship triathlon race in Kona, Hawaii, brought about some of the toughest and strongest mentally focused athletes in the world to race over 140 miles distance in some some of the most outrageous terrain imaginable. We wanted to produce this short video clip to inspire people, period. The discipline and determination, mental focus, physical fitness and positive mental attitude that it takes to compete in a race like this, brings out many of the top qualities that human beings are capable of. And to us, that is worth sharing with the world. This year we wanted to focus on the biomechanics of the professionals in this race, and the "story" of the race. It was a great year, the men's world record was broken by Craig Alexander and Chrissie Wellington finished 20 minutes behind the first leader, after the bike, and still managed to run down all of her competition to come in first. Not all of us are cut out to be world class triathletes, but we sure can admire all of the qualities that it takes to get there. After watching this race, you will want to get your running shoes on, and we suggest that you do, after all your health is your wealth. We were fortunate enough to be allowed to use Peter Bergmann's remix of Hans Zimmer,Time, for the music, you can find this download at / wpahp

start with a sprint race. It's like .5 mile swim, 13 mile bike and 3 mile run. Use your finishing time to gauge how fit you are. Train all year then do the sprint again the following season to give you comparing times. If you are building up good endurance move up to an Olympic race which is a 1 mile swim, 25 mile bike and 6 mile run. Don't over due it and have fun. Lew Hollinder is an 81 year old Ironman.

My bro is a sub-2:55 marathon runner, and just picked up cycling, bought a $2000 road bike, and can't avg 15 mph on a flat course for a full hour. I kind of believed what you believed at one time, but after seeing him, now I know to give each sport it's true respect.

Have you completed an ironman? That would be my one question to you. A friend of mine once said boxing was an easy sport and didnt require much conditioning, she never boxed and was wrong.....in the exact same way you are.

Yeah lol i am sorry but, dafuq are you talkin about? I personally love the sport myself, and know how it feels to do one, especially the pain. If anything, this is one of the most difficult sports in existence; You need speed (run), muscle (bike), lightness (run + swim) and lots of stamina at the same time. You may think it as three simple sports put together, but there is actually a lot of strategy in pacing. Get your facts right.

This is a little off topic, but I'm curious if there have ever been any shark attacks during the swims in these ocean tri's. I'm no marine biologist, but I'm curious whether the massive number of people flailing around would actually deter and intimidate sharks or, conversely, stir them into a feeding frenzy, just like when they're going after seals. Did some googling and only found one such attack, but it was actually during training with a small group of only a dozen or so.

You must be incredibly pathetic to be say something like that. If the athletes, who are some of the most athletic people on Earth, were mediocre at swimming, biking and running then they would never come near finishing 140.6 miles in under 10 hours. I'd like to see you try and finish an Ironman triathlon. I doubt you're even close to being capable of finishing a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike or 26.2 mile run on their own. Don't disrespect a sport that you know you are incapable of competing in.

Dear Person: To prove you are telling completely BULLSHIT here are some facts: Sofie Goos: a professional Belgian Triathlete WON the Antwerp 10 miles run this year, this run has a 30 000 competitors field, she also wins Ironman 70.3 events... Lance Armstrong: 7 time tour de france winner, also wins Ironman 70.3 events... Rutger Beke: former professional SWIMMER on Top also in Belgium, won the world championshop in kona. So why don't keep your bullshit for yourself. Triathlets LIVE STRONG !!!

@Nyndex 12 жыл бұрын
Even though I like the guy, sorry but no, his best achievement in the world championship ever has been 2nd place. He's the best cyclist but he lacks in running, that's why he always gets caught after mile 10 . 26.2 miles are many miles to make up time for; what he doesn't realize is that his competitors have much more time to compensate for whatever they lost in the cycling leg, than any advantage he might leave the bike with. He's got to improve his running and, maybe, to push less on the bike.
@barchetta575m
@barchetta575m 12 жыл бұрын
Woah woah hold on there buddy! Did you just say "if you are a good runner its not very hard to get into cycling."? Are you trying to say a good runner can easily become a good cyclist? I would love to take you on a 150 mile bike ride with me on the Rocky Mountains. If you can keep up with me on 10 minute 28 mph base threshold reps and a few 3,000 feet cimbs, then I'll agree with you. Cycling at a high level is as difficult as running or swimming at a high level.

dude, check out Lance armstrong's page. He finished 4th in all of texas in the 1500m freestyle when he was 12. It's not like the guy never knew how to swim. He was on his way to becoming an elite swimmer before he found out about triathlons, which he did throughout his teens. He became an elite triathlete, then he decided to try cycling, which he did and then excelled at it.
@IgorSlukvinJr

plus Panama had much tougher conditions (Texas is home state, not so humid, etc...) the fact he did worse on easier course suggests an outlier, Panama was his first 70.3 and extreme conditions and he did well so I think it is more representative of his capabilities. If he did worse on the tougher course then your hypothesis would be stronger. It will be interesting to see how he does in the full distance in France.

You are way wrong, a elite marathoner, biker, swimmer do not wish to do an ironman because they only want to specialize in their sport. A lot of the pro ironmans can average 400 plus watts, which they could easily turn pro in cycling if the choose to do cycling solely. Get off the couch and try doing a triathlon yourself
@SergeantColdgirl
@SergeantColdgirl 12 жыл бұрын
They do have their own difficulties but a triathlon is harder since there are three sports all together, plus including the stamina, endurance, speed, training you will need to at least make it through half of this without fainting as to even win this. I guess that's why most people say its the hardest of all athletic activities.

if you are athletic enough to do a 55min swim, try the Ironman I think you might be pleasantly surprised how well you'd do. People who are really good in one discipline, are usually good at the whole thing (50 min is pro time, 55min is considered elite or pro abilities for the swim)

Actually, they did a study of taking e marathon runners and getting them nice bikes and tested their time. those marathon runners did not do so well on the bike. I noticed that you have trolled on several other youtube ironman videos, you must not have a lot of friends or a life.

That's right. The bike is anywhere from 4 and a half hours (for top cycling pros) to 6 hours. Remember, the distance is 112 miles (Roughly LA to San Diego). All 3 disciplines of a triathlon are very difficult in their own right.

dirk brockel averaged once 315 watts for an entire ironman distance race. 112 miles and still saving energy for the run. He can easily average 400 plus if he choose to do cycling solely. When i said 400, i mean as their ftp.

Not sure what that guy was talking about... for someone to be able to swim that distance and bike/run the other distance they'd have to be VERY well rounded as an athlete. a pro biker would have strong legs and endurance but if he tried to swim 2 miles I doubt he'd make it at all because that's now what he trains.
