So, just to point out but the house writers used to encourage doctors to write in with the stupidest/craziest stuff patients brought in to them for the clinic hours. So most of the clinic stuff he does is 'based on a true story' though obviously the doctor's writing in could have made it up they were going on what they gave. I'm sure if they were doing the show today they would just skim medical reddit, as it basically ended up doing the same thing. Also, in response to Dr. Mike saying this wouldn't happen, I'm happy to remind everyone that if you ever see a warning about how not to use something on a bottle? Its because someone was in fact stupid enough to try using it that way. Likewise, there's a reason why there's pictograms on some medicine now. Yes, there are people that stupid in the world.

Socialization can often be the best medicine.

Absolutely: I haven't done it, but my Mom went overseas to help take care of my Grandfather (he had moved back to their home country, the Philippines) when his colon cancer got really bad. She talked a lot about having to feed him, wipe his ass after he used the toilet, bathe him, etc. And she had the luxury of being able to take the time off work to do that. Most people with jobs or their own family, or just their own lives are not equipped for that work.

@@nightingale8178 It'll be a while before I can know what I will do; all I know now is that to me, I wouldn't want my aging to overly burden my theoretical children, or prevent them from living their lives. Children don't choose to get brought into this world, or who will bring them in, and I don't think providing for and raising a child should be viewed as a "favor" to be repaid. That's the responsibility of the parent who decided to have a child; to use it as a justification to place a significant burden upon our offspring reeks of manipulation to me. Now if I have children, and they did want to help me that way, beautiful. But I wouldn't want to force that as an expectation. That's ignoring the fact it's ultimately their choice at the end of the day. And this whole discussion also ignores the fact the many children who faced abuse from their parents, and have every right to cut them out of their lives. Or the simple fact that many regular people are not prepared with the skills or time to properly take care of elderly, especially those with physical or mental health conditions.

To be fair to the writers of medical drama shows... you have to compress stuff, you have to make things more or less dire for drama. Nobody is going to watch a show for two months just waiting to see if the T4 (terminal) cancer patient is dead yet. Every episode is like 2 years of medical process compressed into like a day. What makes House infuriating is simply "House" himself having the bedside manner on extreme end of the ND scale (where they don't see people as humans in deserve of empathy, but as objects that can be replaced, if someone's case isn't interesting, they are undeserving of his time.)

I would like to remind everyone that the Average IQ is 100. Meaning half of people are above, and the other half below. And a quick Google Search, in America 5.5% have an IQ of 75 or below. So of what should be 18.5 million Americans in this range... Yeah, with a pool that big I can see a chunk making some very stupid decisions.

He knows mandarin, because of course he does. And also the lack of tact is because they wrote him to be vaguely on the spectrum, and especially during this time, they just meant you have no empathy. WHICH ISNT A GOOD THING, I JUST WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT WRITING PEOPLE LIKE THAT ISNT GOOD

How funny would it be if it turned out the only reason House went on as long as it did is because medical professionals and longterm patients love roasting it and the majority of it's views came from hate watching! 😂

Why is it so strange to know House, who regularly reads medical journals in foreign languages, can speak a foreign language? He's a genius so it shouldn't be a stretch for him to know multiple languages.

As a doctor, House is absolutely incredible. As a human being, he is a complete ass.
