Today we finish up our custom cowl steering setup with the steering extension and pitman arm. We wanted to make the extension strong but not large and bulky. Follow along for the full process and the final finished prodcut. Thanks for watching! Be sure to like and subscribe to keep track of all of our builds and adventures.

Another way to attach the extension and keep it small is to drill and tap the end of the sector shaft and use a grade 8 bolt to hold it on.

I learned a trick while doing home alignment that a couple pieces of floor tiles under each front wheel makes the turning much easier.

The AAR 'Cudas and T/A Challengers used a longer pitman arm and idler arm to quicken up the steering. It was very effective.

Bucket List Metal Detecting this is a one off sort of design. Each application is going to be a little different. We were able to mount the box like we did due to the box tubing we used to brace/hold the cowl in place. -Mike/ITG

Good steering geometry dictates that the drag link should match the arc of the steering arm to reduce bump steer in drag link applications. Yours looks pretty good from what I can tell in the photos.Was this considered in your design? Also, I 'd love to see Matt tig weld while the camera is behind a shaded lens. Loved this vid, keep them coming!

Hi, Great point to mention! Yes I always try and design my stuff to have a nearly level drag link and it should match the wishbone angle closely as well. It's a lot of standing back and looking to get it all close and then dialing it in with the angle finder. I still need to make the wishbone mounts, but they are wired up to the height/angle they will be fixed at. I'm waiting on the new front tires to set the final wishbone angle/mounting points. Thanks for the comments, that was a great point to mention!

Dave Sinclair we usually try to keep him away when first starting the arc, he usually doesn’t seem to care much. When we are doing heavy grinding or using the plasma we keep him outside! If and when they design puppy welding goggles Moon will have a set!!! -Mike/ITG

this car is really looking incredible. I may have missed it, but what is the original size of the nut that holds the pitman arm to the box?
@IronTrapGarage
@IronTrapGarage 6 жыл бұрын
The nut was originally 1’” 5/16” we machined it down to 1” 1/4”. I cannot remember the amount that we took off each side of the nut. I wanna say it was .080 (roughly) off each of the 6 sides. Thanks -Mike/ITG
